My dad wants to get me an iPhone 5 for Christmas but I want a Samsung Galaxy S4. What are the pros and cons of both phones? Which one do you think is better?

I would go for a Samsung Galaxy S4 if you feel comfortable with the size. For me Android is much superior and affordable than iPhone and iOS, plus it is way more customizable and open source.

I like iPhones. I just got a 5S and it's great, before that I had a 3GS and a 4S.
I struggle to use Android phones and my last two iPhones have been reliable so until that changes that's probably what I'll have

iPhone.
I've had both and personally prefer iPhones.
However both have advantages/ Disadvantages. (Some of these may be opinionated :P )
iPhone Advantags:
-More updates and for longer
-Less prone to malware
-More/Better Apps
-Hardware feels of a higher quality
-Less buggy.
-No junk comes preinstalled
-Fingerprint scanner is pretty awesome and it actually works
Samsung:
-Cheaper (Usually)
-Customisable (Good if you like to fiddle around with your phone)
-Bigger (If you like the bigger screen)
-User replaceable battery
-Expandable storage
-NFC, Remote etc

Samsung build the processors used by Apple so technically your buying Samsung anyway its just a different operating system personally I'm very against apple as they sued Samsung but both phones are easily usable, nowadays your paying for the label anyway

I've had the Galaxy s2 and I didn't like it at all. The galaxy s4 is probably better than the s2, but I have an iPhone s4 right now and it's better than all the androids I've had before. I'd go with iPhone if I were you.

I've always been more familiar with Apple products, which is why I got my iPhone. It's more easy to use!

If it's between those two. Get the Galaxy. HANDS DOWN it's the better smartphone.
Outside of those two, i would recommend the Nexus 5 which should be coming out from Google within the next month:

Thanks everyone. You have been really helpful. I really want the Galaxy now. I've always preferred the bigger screens.

Galaxy S phones are amazing. I have the S3 and a few of my friends have the S4. Both are great. I pick a Galaxy S over iFail anytime.

iPhones are better if you're already a part of the Apple ecosystem. If you have Apple branded computers or other devices, the iPhone will go with them much better than an android phone. As such, an android phone goes much better with non-Apple ecosystems. Android phones are best suited to users of Windows and Linux machines.
Android phones work just fine with Apple computers and such, of course. iPhones are far more restrictive.
I'm an iPhone user because all of my computers are Apple devices provided by work and it all meshes together pretty conveniently. If I went back to using Linux, I'd most likely eventually migrate to an Android phone as well if only for better operability with my OS.

I personally don't like either of them. I hate ios. I got an iphone and everyone said that I'll love it but I hate it. I just don't like touch wiz at all. Touch wiz is sam sings version of android which is nothing like pure android. I would recommend the nexus 5. But I like android much more because of the customization and just the actual look and feel. I hate having literally all my apps on display on my iphone.
