what happeend to the rep system?

From what I can tell there was a similar system on a forum I was on a few years ago and people abused it quite a bit, it just wasn't a good idea, and people became so obsessed with getting the thing. Points or something. I think they called it 'Thanks'. It was a part of why I left (as well as because it was a fan site for a kiddie game I grew out of lol)

lol.yeh sadly even adults abuse the rep system,I was on bodybuilding .com and noticed that supposedly mature grown ups where acting like kids,which makes me glad my family raised me right,because America is turning into a nation of perpetual children=(

It was being abused. Like in ROTW, if someone were to disagree, they could send you into the red if you're new enough.

I'm a member of a forum very similar to this one with a rep system, and I've gotten a ton of positive rep there, but I don't mind it not being here at all.
I do wish there was a like system here though.

Rep go bye bye. It got abused by people to the point where it was a major headache. Rep farmers (You know who you were) basically liked to accumulate mass amounts, because it made them feel superior.

Put differently, it was taken away because young adults (and hell, adults for that matter) on this site had to act like they're five when they were criticized / mad at someone.

I'm glad it went away to be honest. Every time someone disagreed with me I'd see that little red square pop up on my rep page. I guess it just wasn't worth the trouble to keep.

Yes I agree. There are so many times I want to hit a like button here. It is a good way of expressing appreciation and agreement. I like getting them and giving them.

With rep, it's "rep power" and it just seems like too much of ego trip thing and way too much of a way to use it as an attack system.

Like I said, I'm on another forum that is close to this one. Same join date, same amount of posts. I have gotten a ton of positive rep there. I do not mind that there is not a rep system here at all.

Another reason it might have been removed is people that have a very large amount or rep. If someone like that negative repped someone, that person could got down 2-3 bars at times. As far as a like system, is there a way where you get more points/green bars for the amount of likes you have?

No, the like system isn't a status thing like how many green boxes you have.
You can see how many likes a person has gotten and given if you visit their profile page, but its really more just a system of appreciating one another.

The rep system is gone, and it won't be back for a while, if ever. We won't implant a like system either, at least at this particular moment. People get overly butthurt over rep or getting the most likes or whatever it might be, and it's just not worth it for VT. We're doing perfectly fine without it.
