I am not sure if this is exactly the right section for this sort of question, so feel free to move it.
Over the past while I have been cultivating a plant, something from the nightshade species. I am not sure what form of nightshade it is (black, deadly, etc) and would like to find out.
The reason I put it in this section though, is often I look at it and wonder, 'what would happen if I ate those berries?' So I wonder what would happen if I ate a single berry, and if it would be wise to do so?

How on earth could it be wise to eat a strange berry? And what purpose would it serve?

Well, I don't know... If it doesn't do much it is okay. Yet if I happens to end it all I wouldn't be sad either...

Some nightshades contain alkaloids, some of which are toxic chemicals that inhibit/shut down your body's metabolism, in other words stopping it from working. Anything over 6 milligrams of solanine, one of the alkaloids, will kill you. Death is usually preceded with intense nausea and quick energy loss.

If you can't tell the difference between the edible and poisonous nightshades, it's a very good idea to leave them.

Its a terrible idea to tell you the truth, some toxins found in certain nightshade species can kill u instantly

I hav though, that in Australia there isn't much deadly nightshade but there is a lot of Black Nightshade (Solanum Nigrum) which is rumored to be edible.

Oh well then, as long as there is a rumor, what could go wrong?

I vaguely recall my mother teaching me something when I was little...

Oh yeah, if you don't know what it is, don't put it in your mouth.

Don't eat the berries if you don't know what type the are.

The -ripe- berries of Solanum nigrum (black nightshade) are indeed edible and is eaten in Asia and Africa.
There's also an american variety with similar fruit that has edible fruit.
The same family that produces nightshade also produces tomatoes, so no not everything related to the poisonous variety is poisonous.

HOWEVER.
You are playing with fire. This is like eating mushrooms. Yes, there are plenty of edible varieties. No, you shouldn't go picking them without being 4000% sure of what you're eating. And since you're asking this question, you're not.

Just don't do it, if you're not sure. It isn't wise to do so...very unwise.

Don't eat them, ever...ever. My Mum used to have a horse, it ate ONE berry (Not sure what type) and died, it one berry can kill a horse then don't take the risk, it may very well be able to kill you.
