I hate myself, but one of the things i hate the most about me is that i can't talk in english. I just can't. My accent is so freaking bad. I try to speak normally, dont do an accent at all, but i can't. I just end up dont talking loud enought plus a freaking bad accent.
I love english but i just can't and i get so frustrated, can't talk normally cant talk with a british accent, can't talk with a scottish accent and so on. I roll the r's, im Portuguese i'm supose to know how to roll the r's. Between MANY other things.
Last year i went to a English Institute, but guess what every time they corrected me i felt really bad, i didn't talk at all since i wasnt comfy. I just couldn't i knew no one, plus they would all laugh. So i drop out. Now i can't go to a Uni. in the UK, or even talk fluetly.
I end up feeling like shit...and want to cut... Dont know if this is the right sub forum.

IDK. lets just stick to our video games ok?

What is you native language?
But it's ok to have an accent. Most important that you speak this language. Imagine those who don't speak at all...

I have an accent too. I have a lisp when I try to speak English and I often speak so quickly that I end up going ''Iiafuabj fjab, oh excuse me.'' and I usually sound very awkward because I always have to stop talking mid-sentence because I need to think about which words I can use... So I basically sound like this: ''ABFhfabfa, ahum hum, Goodmornnnning.'' It's incredibly frustrating! Don't cut yourself because your English is bad, that's a terrible idea! Smack yourself on the head with an English book or something if you must, but leave those knives alone okay?:)

Even English speaking people have all kinds of different accents.
Some accents are really hard to understand if you are not
from their region. So there is nothing wrong with not having
a standard generic accent heard on TV and movies. Most Americans
love what they consider "exotic" accents.
Esteban Vihaio's accent is adored by everyone.

I speak English natively, so I can't know exactly what you're describing. But I take Spanish, and I have an A+, I write it and understand it completely, but I'm reluctant to speak in class because I think I'll mess up. I guess it relates to your situation in that way. There's only so much you can do to try to have an accent. It will probably develop naturally the more you speak. But don't don't don't cut yourself. Please. It's not worth it. I'm speaking from experience here.

I'm the opposite I can't roll my Rs at all (when speaking French). Don't worry about having an English accent, the majority of English speakers don't have one. An English accent can be quite hard to pull off, especially those soft Rs (Irish accents and English soft Rs seem to be incompatible :P) Try and focus on the positive. I've seen your posts around VT, your written English is really good, better than some native English speakers so that's an advantage.

I can't speak Spanish, and 95% of everybody I know is Hispanic, so it's pretty funny actually. It doesn't bother me.
I don't know what it's like for you :|

English is my native language and I still have trouble speaking it, and stutter a lot, it takes alot of time to get fluent in a language you've learned

Spanish was my first language, so I used to be really self-conscious about my accent. I worked really hard to get rid of it and now I don't have it all. It's all about practice :)

I speak English and Russian. I don't have an accent in either one despite knowing less Russian and more English. Actually I can speak any language or accent perfectly. Even if I don't know the language I can repeat it like a native speaker.
However I have a weird uh glitch, if someone speaks with an accent I automaticly pick it up without knowing what I'm doing and its really embarrassing BC I'm sure people think I'm being offensive or making fun of them. Lol
I have always been good at language. I hear when I was a baby I spoke much earlier than normal and I never babbled. I could say big words and roll my r's with no problem and what I said was always clear. I think its an innate thing and probably has to do with why I pick up accents like I do.

It takes practice to get fluent in it. My parents were non English speakers before but after years of practice you don't hardly hear an accent

English is a really hard language, it's quite silly. Don't stress yourself out over this, it's okay. You can watch videos where people speak in English. Watch how their mouth moves, and exactly how they sound sentences. Play over again simple sentences, and practice saying them like the people in the videos. Do it when nobody else is around so you don't feel embarrassed. You will get the hang of it eventually. It will take a very long time to be perfectly fluent in the accent but it'll be even longer if you don't stop now. I would recommend watching videos by vloggers like Shaytards or CTFxC on Youtube. Instead of it being an English language speaking video, these people talk quickly and 'normally', for lack of a better word. In teaching videos they say things slowly and unnaturally, not really helping that much. Good luck, and please don't feel bad about yourself because of this.

Hey you, English is like one of the stupidest languages ever, I really wouldn't stress yourself over such a silly language. You'll get there, why? Because you're a perfectly smart, capable and intelligent young man and there's no reason at all why you shouldn't get the hang of it. Yeah it's tricky but don't give up! That's the last thing you should do, I know you can do it Eduardo, I believe in you :)

I'll check those vloggers, thank you Hannah. And i'll try to speak a bit more, since quite honestly this is problem.
During English class we pretty much only speak in Portuguese which in my opinion is stupid. We only speak in English when we have oral assessments, and that's just 3 times per year.
Thank you really, i'm kinda happy i'm not the only one is this situation (although some of you are having/had problems with a different language.

I agree. :)
A thick accent spices up the boring flat English language.
Accents in English sound fine :)
Don't beat yourself up for it.

In a way it's all part of the trials and tribulations of learning a new language. I remember when I was learning French I felt the same way, but then when I moved on to Finnish, which was a language I actually wanted to learn, I loved it. It's all about determination and trying to get through it. With discipline and hard work, over time you might just find yourself speaking better English than a lot of English speakers! (:

I agree with the person above me, if you're accent is bad, don't worry about it. If you really want to speak English practice it more, I know its hard learning another accent and language but with pure determination it is possible!
