Hey guys! Recently I got a new laptop and its my first one ever, so I was wondering if anyone knew any good games, (freeware or ones you have to pay for) that I can play. Being the lame broke person that I am, the only console I really own is a laptop and my dsi but I don't use that for gaming very much. My favorite genres are rpg, fantasy, mystery, etc. Indie games are also pretty fun...
Oh, and I also have a quick question...
About the government closing down...does that mean that pirates will be able to get away with more illegal downloads? Because it seems like no one is monitoring them...but you never know.

I'd hav to recommend a few indie games since they are cheap, fun and easy to run! I recommend bastion, braid, thomas was alone, awesomenauts (doesn't have much story though) and a virus named tom. If you don't havmuch money you can always look at the various indiegame bundles as well, like humble bundle, indie royal, indie gala and bundlestars :)

your ip address will still be recorded with the piracy. You'll be caught sooner or later. The gov't shutdown won't change anything like that.

You steam they have a wide variety of games of all genre. Anyway the first rpg fantasy that comes to mind is world of warcraft. Also if your on a low budget steam has their holiday sale and you get so many games for such a low price, only bad thing is it's in like December.

get league of legends, turn all settings to low. Free game, and you can spend days playing it.

What he said- Don't do it. Pirating really isn't worth the risk. You can end up paying a $500+ fine for something that might cost $10 on sale.

Steam is a pretty much necessary part of playing videogames on your PC. That's where you can buy and store games in a library. It's also a great way to keep track of friends and play with them.
Places to buy games for very cheap:
Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/)- Check weekly for what kind of deals they have; I got a TON of games (like BF3, Sims 3, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Dead Space 3, and several other Origin games for less than $6). And that money could be going to charity if that's how you choose to spend it!
Steam Sales are the next best option for game; Daily Deals are great for games that you might be interested in if they're 75% or more off.
I also recommend using CheapShark (http://www.cheapshark.com/) for finding deals from several websites, like Gamefly and Amazon which can have deals even better than Steam sales.
In terms of games, I would recommend Dragon Age: Origins and KotOR 1 and 2 for RPG/fantasy games. For indie games, I suggest Thomas Was Alone, Braid, and To the Moon. Some non-Steam games: Minecraft and League of Legends.
And there are a few games that people consider essential to have or at least play. Those are: Portal (1 and 2), Half-Life (1 and 2 and the Episodes), Sid Meier's Civilization (4 or 5), and several more that I can't think of right now, but I'm sure someone can help compose a bigger list.
What you should do is get a cheap game to keep you occupied until some of those games go on sale, and don't feel like you have to buy them all at once. Be willing to try new games, but don't spend too much too quick. I highly recommend purchasing from Humble Bundle because it's cheaper than any other method, and you'll get enough games to keep you occupied until a good game goes on sale elsewhere.

I defintely need to use Steam! And those games looks like loads of fun! Also, I was going to start playing World of
Warcraft, but it makes me feel a bit intimidated...lol. And buying memberships and expansions would be pretty expensive.
And when I am talking about downloading, I mean Skyrim because
everyone is always talking about it and I really want to try it, and my parents cannot afford many games for me.
I'm lucky I even got a laptop.
I guess you are right about pirating...I would have to pay a higher cost if I got
caught. Thanks guys! If you have any more suggestions feel free to post!
Also if you know any pen and paper games for single players that would be great too (although it's very off topic).
EDIT: Bastion looks like a lot of fun...I will try the trial today...

Use your pirating skills for good. I consider myself a moral pirate I only pirate things if I don't agree with the companies or devs decision. (Normally EA)

Many people downloads illegal games. I don't think government will knock down your doors for downloading an illegal copy of Bejeweled.
There are many games that are copyrighted but are abandoned and the company are defunct. This is called abandonware. I guarantee you 99.9% that they won't come after you.
Yes, there are games that are free now. Such as the Original Elder Scrolls and Command and Conquer the OP can download.

Try prince of Persia 2008. The graphics are different, its not a difficult game. Plus its really cheap. Its still my favourite. The characters, storyline and everything is just magical. Trust me u won't regret playing or buying it. It has got everything- humour , magic, breathtaking sword combos, etc. Have a look:

And cos u are a girl I highly recommend u play this game! It looks difficult but its the easiest game I've ever played. In short its like a fairytale. The storyline is especially brilliant.
