View Full Version : Anti "bumping old threads"?

I think I have a great idea about avoiding bumping old threads. You might want to develop an add on or something that could automatically move to the archives or deleted. For example, any date that goes before 9/1/13 would be moved or deleted. That way the mods will have less stress about locking old threads manually.

This has been asked so, so, so, many times and declined every time.
It's not difficult to follow the rule of not bumping old threads…just don't read threads that old. The reason they aren't automatically archived is in case the OP (Original Poster) of the thread wants to bump it, because they always can.

Just to clear something up, as well - there is no "stress" on the mods to lock threads or do any work like that. It literally takes 5-10 seconds. It is not a big deal. It never has been, and it never will be.

Not needed. OP might want to bump the thread, and as Alli said, not even a big deal for mods to lock old threads.

I've though about that too, because it's annoying when you see an interesting topic to reply to and then see the second to last reply was from several months ago and it was bumped by a new member. And even worse when I don't see it and add to the bump and feel stupid about it. But I figured like StoppingTime said, it's been gone over before and things are the way they are for a reason.

Don't be sorry, it was a good question. They like it when you ask questions. I think Val said the only bad question is the one that doesn't get asked.
