Macs are expensive. PCs aren't. Macs usually don't get viruses because not many people have them and they're not worth attacking. PCs have greater software compatibility because everyone has them. It all depends on what you want it for and how deep your wallet is. If you go with PC I suggest upgrading from Vista to XP.

Make your own decision. You shouldn't rely on us. You need to go experience both. If you don't have much experience with Macs, go somewhere that sells them, and mess around with one for a while, and get a feel for it. Do the same with a New PC.
Macs are, typically more expensive. They both should last similar amounts of time. But, Macs would be more difficult to fix yourself, and if the LCD goes out on it, you've got to either replace the LCD inside it, or throw the entire thing away. With most PCs, everything isn't crammed together so closely, and if one thing dies, you just replace that one part easily.
I don't know what the warranties or coverage are for Macs, or how much they cost.
It depends on what you use it for when it comes to whether or not it's faster.
Like I said, go try both out. Try several different Brands of PCs too, while you're at it. Some of them aren't very good. Do the same with the Apples.

You mean from XP to Vista ;)
Choosing your computer simply depends on what you are going to do with it. For example if you are a gamer you would definately not want a mac. You should look at the software and hardware on both computers and figure out which would suit you more.
