So my family has decided they'd like to replace our main TV with something a little newer, and they asked me if i could help them choose.
I got looking at them online and realized that i don't really have any idea what might be good or not. I've been told that plasma is an outdated technology, but that it produces the best colors. I've heard of led and lcd, and i know led is a matter of having different types of leds for brightness, but that the display is still lcd.
I'm also fearful of dead pixels / flashlighting, and ghosting. Our 8 year old sharp has held up pretty well, but it does have two stuck pixels (one green and one red)
We want something that we can open the box, unpack it and it works. Not something we have to take back 3-4 times because of screen issues.
The same person that told me plasma is old tech, also told me that he prefers LG brands. I was thinking the samsung p8500/unf8000 series, or the sony 802 series. But since I'm a newb with all of this, I really have no idea.
Here is what we are looking for : Light, Durable, no dead pixles/etc screen issues, high quality 3d, internet connectivity, best picture possible, around 46"
Does something like that even exist?
