Actually, I disagree. If it's accidental, and she's nice, she would understand. The smile in that case is a signal that she knows it's not on purpose and things are still cool between you and her. Just another possibility :)

I just mean that it could have gone either way. Some girls would go into rage-mode, some would recognize it as an accident and say it's all good, others would take the wrong hint and try to go further with it.
