Does anyone listen to Broadway songs or even just non-Broadway musicals?
As an actress naturally I love it. Recently I've been listening to a lot of Matilda, I'd love to see that show, growing up it was both my favorite book and movie. Right now I'm in Annie, which has a great soundtrack as well. I sing: Hard Knock Life (and the reprise), Hooverville, I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here, NYC(I'm star-to-be), Never Fully Dressed (Kids), New Deal For Christmas. There's probably more but I haven't learned them.

My theatre teacher made us watch several famous Broadway performances on video and they were pretty cool, but other than that I haven't really listened to anything broadway-y.

I'm jealous! I've never seen a Broadway show even on video, just short clips on Youtube.
Though, I have seen national tours of The Lion King and Mary Poppins.

They're great on video, but it only makes you really want to watch one live.

Which shows did you see? Do you still listen to the soundtracks from them, like on Youtube?

Lol I only remember the name of one of them, which is kinda unfortunate since I want to watch the other ones again. I think it was called Cirque de Soleil or something like that, I've watched it about four times.
Edit: Holy crap, I just remembered another one, it was called Into The Woods.

Cirque de Soleil is a Broadway show? I thought it was more of an extremely high end circus act.
And yeah, I've heard of Into the Woods. It's pretty popular in community theaters lately.

I'm actually not sure what it is. They sang a lot, but it was just jibberish.

I saw this Cirque du Soleil (I guess it's du not de) on TV a while back, and it was basically all I knew about it.

I don't usually listen to them recreationally. I'm so sick of the music as it is. Sadly, I can't stand songs like Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again and Green Finch and Linnet Bird anymore because they're audition songs. They've lost their beauty in my head, so I try not to listen to OCRs because it only increases the rate at which I get sick of them. The only song I worked on with my vocal coach that I never got sick of was In His Eyes from Jekyll and Hyde. So gorgeous. But it's been nine years and I still start shrieking every time my dad sings Oklahoma. I have a less intense reaction to music from every other musical I've been in.
Edit: Holy crap, I just remembered another one, it was called Into The Woods.
They're MAKING A NEW MOVIE OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED. Meryl Streep instead of my Bernadette is going to be weird but I love Meryl.
Stephen Sondheim is my favourite BTW. Then Webber.

I'm a theatre person also and 80% of what I listen to is Broadway, hehe
Shows on my always-listen playlist, alphabetical order :P :

(going to be in hopefully this spring at my school!), How to Succeed..., In The Heights, Into the Woods, Jekyll & Hyde, Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Les Mis, The Lion King, Little Shop of Horrors, Little Women, Matilda (quickly becoming my 3rd favorite show), Miss Saigon, Next to Normal (ok actually this is my 3rd fav show), Once On This Island, Phantom ofc, Pippin (I want to see this with Patina SOO bad!!! Patina is my favorite actress ugh), The Producers, RENT, Sister Act (queen Patina <3), Sweeney Todd,Thoroughly Modern Millie (Sutton Foster <3), Urinetown, West Side Story, Wicked (I cried so much when I saw this), You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Oh my holy mother of musicals.
Though I live only a few hours out of NYC I have never been to a Broadway show, but I've seen a few tours in Providence at PPAC with my grandparents. (Boston and Providence are the same distance away from me but Providence is easier and I go with my grandparents who live 10 minutes out of Providence). I watched the documentary It's A Hard Knock Life which is about starting the broadway revival of Annie, focusing on a few of the orphans, mostly the girls playing Molly and Pepper if I remember correctly, and putting together that scene. I'm in a community theater production of Annie currently and it's funny, the girl playing Annie has the same first name of one of the two girls currently playing her on Broadway (I won't say which one). I really love Matilda, now don't hate me, please please, but I did find a broadway recording of it online with Sophia Gennusa as Matilda, oh my god she is amazing, luckily she is the one I wanted to see the most (or Bailey Ryon). Really fantastic show and wish I could see it live.

Damn, this is a good list! I do a ton of tech theater, and I've done a couple of these shows between HS and community theater for backstage stuff. A couple of my favorites off your list: Anything Goes, Avenue Q, Fiddler, Jekyll, Les Mis, Little Women and Miss Saigon. Plus Once on This Island is growing on me the more often I hear the music.

I love watching Broadway stuff! I'll literally search up the musical and watch the whole thing on Youtube or parts of it. I'm like a total theater geek, I was almost in a musical once for my old school, but I had to leave because of problems.

Look if there's a community theater near you that is auditioning!

yeah, it was fantastic! our house is really good. i think it was on the west end in the early 2000s. les mis - once you're in this fandom, there is no escape. it is absolutely perfect and every second of this show is fantastic. it seems a bit daunting at first because as you might know it's more of an operetta than a musical, but it seriously is brilliant.
