View Full Version : Am I the only one who sucks at everything?

After being around for a couple of years I have come to a question. Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone around you excels in some sort of sport, or activity, but you can't.
My best friends literally do a lot of sports and although they aren't the best one in their team they are like in the top. I have a friend who does ballet dancing, a friend who mountain bikes, a friend who is a black belt in tae kwon do, a friend who is varsity cross country.
Then I even know people that are just good at other not sport stuff, like they can play the guitar, or they are extremely smart. All I know is that for the past 18 years. I have tried so many things since I was little. Soccer (failed miserably), Ping pong (didn't make the team), knowledge bowl (I was the replacement player), math team (we had a main team, and a back up one, I was the captain of the back up one and we always got last), and now I have been in cross country for the past three years, but I also suck at it, considering I'm 20th in a team of 58 guys.
Am I the only one who literally sucks at every sport/activity that has been created on earth? Does anyone else feel like this sometimes?

Yep, I do. I'm slow and uncoordinated psychically and have ADHD. I do however excel at being quiet, going mostly unnoticed and I'm a master keeping to myself.

Maybe those sports arent for you.
The sports I like cannot be done in my area. However it depends on where you draw the line between a sport and a hobby since a sport can be a hobby.
I like windsurfing and surfing. Im not interesting in football, rugby or anything else like that.

The only sport I've ever been good at is sprinting, and anyone can be good at sprinting.

I loathe and despise ALL sport. I'm genuinely like the Grinch for sport, it got so bad I used to never bring my kit for PE and the teachers stopped moaning and never punished me haha. That all stems from how terrible I am at all forms of sport.

I know what you mean about sport I didn't know anyone else with such bad hand-eye coordination as me. But I do like stuff like running and hiking. You just have to explore more different activities to find something you're good at. Figure out what interests you and go from there.

I hate sports or any kind of physical activity. I do really well in classes and I'm alright at guitar.

Someday you will find something you are good at. Just keep looking and trying new things. Don't stress over it too much, maybe you won't find something you truly excel at for 10 years. But when you do you'll be great at it!

Can't do sports. I'm not very physically coordinated. Ice skating is it. But I'm a jack of all trades with many things, especially the arts, so I'm okay with not being good at sports.

I meant it more in a way like, not only sports, but just in general. I don't think I excel at anything at, not arts, not being quite, nothing much really.

If your not a good at a sport your most likely not trying hard enough. If your un-co you could do exercises to better develop your hand-eye coordination. You need to train and develop (which applies to most things in life).
When I first started playing cricket I was crap. I would often ball 4-6 wides an over however after months of training for 4 hours I week I developed and was consistently getting wickets on Saturday morning matches.

I ran away from the ball when my friend convinced me to try out for the soccer team. I could have probably gotten better, but I think some people just aren't cut out for sports or they're just not interested enough.

I suppose. Sports are a mental thing and if your not interested in it, it's never going to work.

You also have to have the slightest bit of coordination and ability ...

It depends upon how confident you are about yourself sometimes.
You should not be always on the comparative with your friends (I mean, they should not be your ultimate reference in the sport or whatever)
Set your own achievable goals. Set your own reference.
That's the key to succeed and avoid unnecessary stress.
Well, it's just my personal 'ingredients' to tackle such problem...there could exist better alternatives.

It takes practice and skill to excel in sports/physical activity.
That's why I didn't like PE, because it made me feel like I was forced to learn a sport in a few days, then start playing games against people who've been practicing and playing the sport for years.
If there is a sport you have an interest in, just start from the basics out on the field (even if it takes a few months!) and you'll eventually start getting better at it! :)

My advice take a new attitude toward yourself. If you start thinking like a winner and acting like a winner and seeing setbacks as nothing more then a chance to learn and develop you'll get better.

I totally suck at everything. Every sport and every activity. It's not that I don't like sports/activities and I DO try but I can't do it. This whole "you have to want it and be confident" is a bunch of crap.
I have been bullied since 3rd grade in gym class and sometimes I get physically sick the nights before I have gym and I can''t sleep.
Our culture is too obsessed with sports and even gym teachers don't care if a kid is getting bullied. They don't "teach" anything. We come out of the locker room and they just say "ok, we're gonna do this sport today. You and you, (usually the most popular guys), pick teams".
I'm sick now just thinking of it.
