I was just wondering if you guys thought it may be a good idea to implement a forum for those teens who have been or are currently being effected by some form of the terrible disease cancer?
I was talking to a friend the other day who has had cancer for a good part of her childhood (she's now in remission, thank god) about all the terrible crap that she's been through with her fight against cancer and she made the comment that when she was going though all this, she "wished there had been some type of a forum or chatroom for kids and teens with cancer to connect and talk about their experiences" she seemed really passionate about the idea and a little light bulb went off in my head like "holy shit that may be a good idea for VT!". I didn't say anything to her about it, but the more I think about it, the more I wish something like that could be started here so we could be able to further extend our reach in helping teens.

TBH, i don't think it would get alot of traffic. The idea is good and i like it, but realistically, i think it would be dead.

Same. It's a good idea, but if that situation came up, they could post in the General Hospital forum.

What was said above is exactly right. The number of threads about people with cancer is absolutely minimum, and those threads are fine in VT General Hospital (where they exactly fit), or even The White Padded Room. We can't have a forum for every illness. We'd have a cancer forum and a chronic pain forum and an allergies forum and a broken bones forum and it's just really not necessary for VT. They wouldn't be very active and they fit perfectly in their parent forum. (General Hospital)
It does seem like a good idea, just like all the other forum suggestions but it's just not practical for VT and its needs.

I don't think there would be much traffic. You can talk/rant about it in the hospital forum or TWPR.
Edit: Val posted before me by just a second, guess my insight isn't much needed anymore

Cancer is such a broad spectrum of diseases that if everything cancer was posted in GH it would just be crazy.
Plus, I don't think it would be as much of a "help me" forum as a "share your story to other cancer victims" forum.

Ok, thanks for the insight Val.
I just thought it might be an actually successful suggestion.

I do see exactly where you're coming from, even so with what you said in reply to LouBerry.
Honestly, Uplifting Stories and Messages would be great for that too. If you've got a story about overcoming cancer, that's one hell of an achievement and that's awesome. I just think a forum for it would be a bit over the top, and I think given that the threads we get for it anyways are at a minimum, a forum would be just as empty.

Yeah, I totally get you there.
Of all the members on this site, very few to none of them (that I know of) have been effected by cancer (thank god), so it probably wouldn't get much traffic at first, but I also was thinking it may attract a whole new group of teens to the site just to discuss cancer, like P101 attracts people to talk about puberty.

Not that many of us have cancer so the whole sub-forum would be empty.
