I was born in late 99 and never really listened to a lot of music from them. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry don't kill me!

As a '97 kid, we will spare you. But seriously, you don't have to be born in the 90s to enjoy it's awesomeness.
Oh, and I second that "Smells like teen spirit" Kurt Cobain was awesome

Child, you must listen to 90s music, for your life shall not be complete without it. I, too, was born in the late 90s, 1998 to be exact, but my life has been enhanced significantly by the kick ass music released in this decade.
Anyway, you should definitely listen to some of the stuff from the 90s. Even hip-hop was better back then ;)

A bit of an exaggeration. I say, the only songs that are remembered are the good songs. Therefore, Lil Wayne and company will be left behind in the future.
This causes the "everything was better back then" effect.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it'll be forgotten. See Rick Astley for an example.

How is it an exaggeration? How can you even choose which songs were good and which were not? I probably should have worded my post differently because I really didn't mean to make it sound like music back then was better.

My point was that the dominant music (regardless of my opinion) will be remembered and the lesser will not. You can find examples by googling artists from past and see that many of them did not meet the "music being better" quota. Even if there were a bunch of really good artists, there still are today. Some can even compare to the "back then" standard. I didn't really mean what I thought was good or bad, but what WE thought was good or bad.

I guess. But we choose to remember what we like to.

Maybe. I'm not a huge music person, (besides singing musical theater).

I dunno, I think most of the music from the 90's, like today, was crap.
Green Day's "Basket Case" was pretty good, thoug.

Closer - Nine Inch Nails just cause it deserves to be overrated.
That's the short answer. The long answer, I can't even narrow it down to a favorite album. I don't get how people can single songs out like that. I usually think in albums o.o
90's music is like a third of my music library, and definitely not because I was a 90s kid. That has nothing to do with it when you grew up listening to N sync like me.

1998 on the album I Am by Nas
I don't know too much about how Pop and Rock was back in the 90s, but for Hip Hop/Rap 90s were the good days before all of this Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz garbage that people listen ot these days.
