Catalonian and Scottish Independence 2014?

What do you think about Catalonia (in Northeast Spain) and Scotland (In North UK) holding referendums on their independence from the country they are considered to be a sub-division of?

I do not have the opinion on Scotland, however I am sure Catalunya can be independent in the future (and I'll support that), but I don't think their economy can stand strong without the rest of Spain (which isn't doing all that well really) however I will still support them.

They have free universities, and the social standards are almost like the ones in the UK. They are better then the ex-Yugoslav countries for fuck's sake. They are better then Greece, all of Africa, and a large part of Asia.

No need for the racism, you provided absolutely no explanation for why Ireland is an 'epic fail'. England isn't so perfect your monarch earns £56 million (as of July 2012) a year for being born into the right family. But I'm not stupid enough to think your whole country is a failure, and not childish enough to call your country an 'epic fail' for disagreeing with some things that happen there. You do not appear very knowledgeable about Irish history, so please do some reading.

Something to look forward to if I will stay here: enjoy the basking summer days of this economic climate.

But otherwise I don't think it's so bad as you make it out to be. Being part of a larger country, in Scotland's case, is not inherently smart. Such as Ireland being part of the EU and with the euro: this international currency leaves individual nations with not much control over the currency. A euro nation has no control over other nations' affecting the currency they are using.

You did not specify why Ireland is an 'epic fail', and why the UK is better, and why the Scottish are better off in the UK. From an economical standpoint, the Scottish are better in the UK, but if the majority wants the independence so badly, they will get it. In government terms, Ireland is a few steps in front of the outdated English monarchy, they have an elected head of state.

The people want a symbolic leader like the Queen ( 69 % of Brits say Britain would be worse off without the monarchy). And yes the majority of its from tourism and merchandise. As for Independence, the said countries/regions will get it if they really want it, its up to them, no one else.
