I'm from Australia and want to pursue a career in the Australian defense force. What do you guys think?

Go for it. If you want to do it, the only thing stopping you is yourself.

If you want to do it, go for it. (I actually have thought about joining the US army myself)

You can do well to find out all the options and start to make a list of what they might want or look for in recruits for whatever branch you think best.

School subjects - fitness etc

If that's what you want, then by all means do it.

Its a good job, I was thinking about it before I chose my career choice. Protecting your country, helping out alliance countries, its a good job.

Keep in mind the risks of that career path, as long as you know that there are risks, you should go for it. If that's what you want to do, make sure you do know for a fact before you get into it.

That's great! Just make sure you know exactly what you're getting into before you do it.

I wouldn't recommend going straight into it, I joined reserves with the intention of joining full time but after serving in the reserves for a while I decided it wasn't for me. Good thing was I wasn't signed up for a 3-6 year commitment like I would have been if I joined the full time army straight away. My advice, go reserves first, test the waters and decided if full time army is for you.

If you want to go to war, you should at least know EVERYTHING about it, ive known young guys going to the army, having no idea who they are killing and why, and that makes me sick.

Can you kill someone?

If yes, then go for it. It's a good long-term career path if you don't get killed in a war.

If no, then it's probably not the best path for you.

Think hard about your answer, because you will have to face that decision if you're deployed.

Being a soldier is probably the hardest job. I suggest you watch the Hurt Locker. It's a movie that portrays how war is very well and accurately.

I don't think there is enough money to let my future son get killed for an order. I'm against military.
Defend your house and family from burglars is just enough. No soldiers means no more wars.

I am all for giving back to your country. But no, the hurt locker was a terrible representation of military life (numerous inconsistencies about explosive ordnance disposal, their procedures, equipment, etc). In the words of my grandad, (a serviceman in the army during World War II) if you want realism, find a movie where the main character spends the whole time doing nothing but wondering when he will die.

If you think you can, no need to ask people.

GO. FOR. IT!

Hah! Good luck, mate. :D :yeah:
