Let me tell you about the part alcoholism has in my family.

Grandfather(Alcoholic)+Grandmother(Nicotine addict) =

Mom (former alcoholic & nicotine addict + former coke addict)

Grandfather2(Alcoholic)+Grandmother2(schizoid) =

Father (raging alcoholic)

Mom^ + Father^ = My Brother (raging alcoholic+coke+Oxy)

Other Brother (NEET)

Me? If I try drinking doesn't look like I'm destined to be an alcoholic? Any sort of fun I try to have looks like it will become an addiction. I think I might already be addicted to adderall.

What is your family like?

Perhaps alcoholism is passed down through generations, but it's probably very unlikely. I say it's by chance that your ascendants have had some sort of addiction. I say that addiction is nuture over nature.
And if it really is genetically based, don't think that your genes will make you destined to have an addiction. You can achieve practically anything, if you put your mind to it.
Hope this helps :D

Addiction of drugs isnt genetic, its a choice every single human make, given their situation in life and mental state.

If your scared to drink, simply dont. Staying away from drugs would be wise of you, at least until you get older.

Addiction is a choice. But people may be more prone to addiction due to genetics. You may have a genetic predisposition toward addiction.
