Alright so my mom thinks i should join debate club because we argue about things and she apparently doesnt want to hear me talk anymore haha. Anyway i heard basically the worst shit about debate club like theres jokes about it on tv and even people say youll get made fun of if you do it. So anyway i may bat an eye for politics, religion, world issues but id rather be in sports for extracurricular activities which im already doing. I think its really me to do that for now unless i find something that suits me even though my mom tells me to get my ass involved in clubs, so yeah, let me hear your thoughts.

I don't think anyone really makes fun of people for that stuff anymore, especially if you're good at it.
And personally, I think it's great.

I'd totally join the debate club if my school had one.

Funny that you talked about it, I signed up for debate club last week. My school's debate club is very demanding, however it makes some of the best debaters, there is a senior in my school who is ranked #13 in the world when it comes to debaters. I think debate is great, of the two practices I have gone to I've had a hell of a time in both. It improves your public speaking and vocabulary as well as your knowledge on current events. Then again, some debate clubs are really demanding and will chip off some time as you research and write down stuff to debate about. And it still bugs me a little that I can't choose a side. I think that if you're into it you'll have a hell of a time.

Don't let others stop you from doing what you want. You said you heard on TV people get made fun of for being in debate club. That may be the generalization, but know your school. Is that true?
And I wish my school would get a debate club, because I'd be the first on the sign-up list, haha.
Just do what you want to do! <3

I'm a member of the debate club of our school and I never regretted joining them. Debating is quite fun even if you find intimidating at first since debaters try to choke each other out with arguments and rebuttals.
But when you look at the bright side of it, debating can actually sharpen your critical thinking and reasoning. It also opens new avenues for improving your skills. Since debating requires that the debater should be fluid in his/her speech, then, it can be applied in other fields, such as extemporaneous and impromptu speaking.
Summing it all up, DEBATING IS NOT BORING. It is a formal way of trash talking. :D

I watched a lot of debates. But well, I think they're pointless.
Still there are tactics to win the debate even though it would seem like you didn't won at all.
If you want to. Go for it. Just don't engage in dirty tactics, okay? :yeah:
