A Melbourne woman has told a court she was subjected to painful sex by a teacher in a school darkroom during a three-year period of abuse which began when she was 14.
Paul Anthony Segar, 50, of Mt Waverley, appeared in the County Court in Melbourne on Tuesday, on 10 charges over the alleged offences which happened at a secondary school in Melbourne's eastern suburbs between 1992 and 1994.
During cross-examination by prosecutor Steve Dewberry, the victim - who is now aged 30 and cannot be identified for legal reasons - told the court she was forced to leave school at the end of 1994 "to get away" from Segar.
Segar has been charged with two counts of an indecent act with a child under the age of 16, four counts of sexual penetration with a child under 16 and four counts of sexual penetration with a child aged 16 to 17 whilst under his care and supervision.
She was first approached by Segar in February 1992, when she was aged 14.
Segar took her to an office where he ran his hands up and down the front of her thighs, around her groin area and pelvis, she told the court.
She said that when she reported the incident to another teacher they told her: "Don't be stupid, you would want to be really sure of your facts before you say anything like that."
After the incident, Segar approached the teenager and asked her if she would like to help him develop photographs for the school magazine.
It was during photo developing sessions in the school's darkroom, when they were alone, that she alleges Segar's sexual advances intensified.
The court was told that in early 1992, Segar approached the teenager from behind in the darkroom and began rubbing her thighs and her vagina with his hands.
"It was deliberate positioning and moving around my vagina," she told the court.
On other occasions she alleges Segar fondled her and tried to pressure her into having sexual intercourse.
"Mr Segar asked if I would have sex with him. He said he would get a condom," she said.
"I said 'No way'.
She told the court that in mid-1994, when she had turned 17, Segar forced her into having painful anal sex in the darkroom.
"He lifted my skirt and pulled down my undies and started having anal sex with me," she said.
"It was very painful. It felt like a lifetime."
She said that Segar continued to have anal sex with her on a weekly basis until she left the school in December 1994.
The school principal and Education Department were notified shortly after she left, and Segar was sent a letter outlining the allegations.
The victim did not report the incidents to police until December 2004.
The trial before Judge Julian Leckie continues on Wednesday.
