So I started taking Paxil 6 weeks ago, and its done nothing for me.

I suffer from mild depression and extreme anxiety. I was reading up on medication, and I really think I need to take two different types, Lexapro and Xanax. The Lexapro would help me manage everyday anxiety (so I'd have to take it daily) while the Xanax would manage more than normal anxiety (I would take this on an "as needed" basis). Obviously I can't just ask "Can I have Xanax?" Because its a very hard to get drug. So how can I ask for these two drugs without actually Asking. I do not want to sound drug seeking at all. Please no crappy answers, only good, experienced answers.

I'm on Psych meds too. I'm not sure if you have been on the Paxil long enough to feel the full effect. The only thing I can suggest is to talk to your Psych tell him or her how you are feeling and that you don't think the meds are working for you. then tell your Psych that you have been reading up on different medications and the conclusion you came to.
Prob not the answer you wanna hear but, remember your Psych only knows what you tell them. I hope this helps you.

I only have a dr and I would rather just go through him then have to get a psych (we can't afford it, and it'd be a huge hassle with the insurance). What are you on?

I understand the money situation. Thankfully I only see my Psych like every 3 months.
I started with the family Dr. He didn't think he could do much for me and suggested getting a Psych.

I am on Xanax, which I don't know about Europe but is also called Alprazolam here. I have it due to the extreme panic attacks I get, while I have other medication for the other things you mentioned. The doctor who prescibed Xanax to me said its main purpose was for making panic attacks more bearable. Do you get those as well? I'd like to see if I can help you with this, however I need information about if you suffer from panic attacks, and if you do, is there many triggers for yours as well?

Here's the thing, I never really understood panic attacks.

Like, there are moments on my life where I go through extreme anxiety, I mean extreme. Like, my heart SOMETIMES races, I get insomnia, and the only thing I think about is what I'm freaking out about, like it consumes my thoughts, it's hard to even think properly. I don't really sweat, but I feel as if I'm going crazy. Literally.

It's very intense and distressing.

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about. The "going crazy" feeling, having your thoughts totally consumed by one thing, insomnia, all of it is very familiar to me. However for my doctor here to decide to prescribe me with Xanax in addition to all that I had constant dizzy spells and even the thought of going to places would trigger a panic attack for me. Please give me all the information you can, here or by PM.

The doctor I see (she works from Melbourne in Australia) is a very talented woman who has asked me to check around for other people going through similar things I have been and still do. Since you're in Europe I can't tell you how good your chances would be getting Xanax, however I can send your information to my doctor and I'm sure she can think of a way you can request it.

The symptoms for panic attacks listed here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_attack) are quite accurate, by the way.
