Hey VT,

I wanted to how many of use windows 8 or what do you think about it. I bought windows 8 because I thought it will much better than windows 7, but I change my mind about that I feel like windows 8 is meant more for tablets and laptops I'm using a PC I think I might downgrade to windows 7 pro :/

also lol how do I make a poll?

In still using windows 7 I've used 8 but I just don't like the look of the metro UI. But there no doubt about it that windows 8 is defiantly faster if only there was a way to disable the metro bs.

I don't have much of a problem with Windows 8, I kind of dislike the fact that it was made much more for tablets and touchscreen computers, especially since I have a laptop with Windows 8 that doesn't have touchscreen capabilities.

I went from Vista to W8 in getting a new laptop recently. Took a little getting used to, but so far I have no complaints. Mainly cause I'm so happy with the new laptop.

weird and seems like it fits better in the tablet range rather than the pc/desktop range. I'm staying with Windows 7

I use windows 8, and i'm used to the awkwardness of it now. i don't like how it takes more than 2 steps to shut down. and i don't like the split between desktop and 'modern ui' apps.

i like windows 8, but there is the 8.1 update coming out sometime this year that will bring back default booting from the desktop and the start menu will be back, for those of you who don't like having to mess with the start screen.

i've been using windows 8 for about 2 months and I'm not having any issues at all with it. It did take a bit to get used to the start screen though.

Well you can always dual boot Windows 7 and some Linux distro.

You can dual boot with Windows 8?

I honestly have no issue with Windows 8. I upgraded to windows 8 when I got a new laptop and while its different and probably works better on a tablet I'm fine with windows 8.

3 words. F*** Windows 8. Right now i have a desktop with 7 on it, i upgraded it to 8, had it for 2 weeks, and downgraded it back to 7 again. The thing that annoys me, is when im browsing a website, sometimes it will bring be back to the home screen. I hate how to turn it off, you have to go to the right side, bring up the taskbar and all of that. Its a lot easier with the start button. Dont like all the apps either. This was probably not one of Microsofts greatest accomplishments.

Windows 8 is pretty much for touch screen type things.

To be honest I don't know why so many people hate it so passionately. Maybe that's just a "I'm on the internet I better cause some HYPE HYPE HYPE" thing, I don't know. To me though, it's not that bad. Sure you've got the Metro UI, but nobody's forcing you to use it. Yea, I wish there was an actual Start Menu, but I think that's out of habit more than anything else. I can search for a program using the shortcut much quicker then I would've been able to in the menu, so it doesn't bother me that much.
I've had 8.1 installed as a Virtual Machine on my Mac since it's been out, and the only thing that's really bothered me is the fact that it's failed…twice. That's probably because it's a Boot Camp partition, though, and Apple doesn't officially support its install.

To make a poll, just edit the thread, and there will be an option when you click "go advanced"

I have Parallels as well and I like it. I installed it as a Boot Camp partition so I could use all the CPUs and graphics capabilities rather than just some of it.

Edit: I'll add it for you. what should it say?

You should be able to dual boot with windows 8, but be sure to check with some tutorials though. Don't want to screw up your installation

I really dislike Windows 8. I think Windows 7 is superior, although my personal favourite is Vista despite the fact it's apparently pretty bloated... I just like the layout and how I'm used to it. Next laptop I get I'm getting a 64 bit Windows 7.

When i was getting a laptop i chose windows 7 over 8 because i've heard 7 was much better. I also used ubuntu before, i heard you can't get any virus' on it.

Ughhhhh, I can't stand 8 when it's not on a tablet. I upgraded to 7, saw 8, and I knew I did not want to upgrade my laptop. I'll gladly stick with my current OS, TYVM.

Windows 8 bugs me, it's designed for touchscreens and they should've come out with a keyboard and mouse friendly version, but they didn't which is the main issue with it, it just doesn't work very well if you don't have a touchscreen, like Shiv said I adjusted my mothers laptop to look like win7 and now it's perfectly usable :)

Windows 8 works great as a tablet OS. For that, I have no qualms with it. However, when approaching the desktop environment, it failed. 8.1 has so many bugs that have yet to be addressed by Microsoft that I'm losing hope in them. I still remember when Microsoft was a software company and not a hardware/software company. I still use Windows 7 and am very likely to use that as my main partition for years to come with Linux as secondary.

Windows 8 hate only comes from the fact that people hate change. The next Microsoft OS, whatever it might be, will most likely get a ton of love from people. That's usually how things go for them, but I don't know anymore.

I use both Mac OS and Windows and I like that windows 8 is fast but hate the unterface. It's much nicer on a tablet or phone .

I heard it was the shittest thing in existance but when I got my new laptop it came with Windows 8 and it's actually not so bad. I think I find it easier to control with a touch screen but yeah I like it. You can just click on the 'desktop' option and it opens up to look like Windows 7 anyway so it's all there really.

Had you asked me two months ago before my w7 broke, I'd have said w7 no questions asked.
Had you asked me one month ago when my w7 broke and I got my w8, I'd say fuck w8 I miss my w7.
Had you asked me today, I'd say I really actually like my w8 and it's not as bad as everyone actually says.

So, I do like windows 8.

I think Windows 8 is ok and some progression from 7, but I've never used it and so can't say what I think it really is like.
I have an old XP laptop atm and will probably stay with Windows, but I've heard good things about Linux, such that it is efficient with memory and that it crashes less than Windows.

The problem with Windows 8 is that everything just had to be changed. Not that it hasn't happened previously, but this change is so drastic that it renders it unusable for me and apparently many others.

My sister got one of those newfangled touchscreen laptops with windows 8. She has needed help with various things and I just cannot figure out what to do. Take media playing. Seems simple, yes? For years, MS has pushed their Windows Media Player and made it the default program associated with many files. And, all things considered, it's not too bad, either.
So when my sister wanted to play a CD, naturally I just assumed it would open in windows media, so those were the instructions I shouted to her. But there appeared to be a misunderstanding: there was no CD icon shown anywhere. Instead, "XBOX music" had opened, and of course was not working. It took a moment of showing how to use "open with..." to her.

Don't even get me started on network printing. Maybe our setup is strange, but it works on XP.

And where's the start button. I always end up clicking the Explorer icon in the task bar instead. And when the familiar keyboard button between the Ctrl and Fn keys no longer brings up said start menu, I'm a little confused.

Lastly, the fact that you need to create a hotmail/whatever-it-is-this-week to do a lot of things is an abomination. Likewise, why must you log in using this email? It makes no sense!
And this "sign out" crap, too. The restart option all but disappeared: it took me a while to figure out that I had to "sign out"(it's not a website, I thought) and only then could restart is just plain user-unfriendly.

These be my grievances.

I feel like Microsoft made Windows 8 assuming that 'one size fits all' but it really doesn't.

I think Windows 8 should stay on tablets only.

To answer the poll, my favourite OS is Mac OSX because I find it more reliable and faster.
