So by now, every single person alive has had their input on Miley Cyrus's suggestive dancing at the VMA's last Sunday. I don't know it's already been asked, but what is your opinion on it? Is she "corrupting the youth of America" or is everyone just making a huge deal over nothing?
Personally I think it's not a big deal. I've come to expect this from Miley, considering how hard she's been trying to shock everybody for the last few months.

I don't believe she's "corrupting" anybody, it's actually quite entertaining watching her go to the lengths she's going to for attention. I used to love her when I was younger, but even then she was attention hungry. She's just ridiculous.

She just can't twerk. This is why 30-60 year old people need to stay away from us because they turn EVERYTHING into controversy.

A suggestion.
Please don't complain about Miley Cyrus unless you're prepared to look in the mirror and ask yourself why you would have a problem with her performance that night but not Robin Thicke's or even our role in it . The fact that Cyrus was merely acting out the lyrics of Blurred Lines shouldn't be considered absurd. What's absurd is that we are now attacking her for performing the lyrical message our culture supported this entire summer every time we stepped on a dance floor and grinded to this song.
She gave us exactly what we wanted that night. We've been begging for it.

^As much as I wish this could be the case, seeing Mika Brzezinski and countless other prudish newspeople lose their shit over this proves otherwise.

I don't think anybody really cares much for Robin Thicke's performance and his song. Miley Cyrus' absurd attempts at seeking attention is what everyone is making a mockery of. And to be honest, Miley Cyrus is doing a damn good job at being the center of attention.

Miley Cyrus is mentally ill. What mentally ill, attention-seeking people do is none of my business as long as it's not slitting my throat with a letter opener.

Can anyone explain to me why "twerk" was added to the english dictionary? Don't people have any desire to keep a language decent?
I don't know how to react about it, I just think her "fans" like her "twerking" so she did it.
I also found this hilarious picture of Balotelli when he scored in the Euro and Miley Cyrus twerking in front of him.

Huffington Post lol. Sorry, but I have too much respect for myself to read something from them. Though I'm sure they did a good job over reacting like everyone else has the last few days.

GaGa in her early years was definitely an attention seeker. I hardly see her in the news anymore, so I wouldn't call her an attention seeker now. She's toned down a lot since 2009/2010 when she was really gaining popularity.

Which brings me to question why no one is questioning Robin Thicke's lyrics (if they're his own, which they're likely not). There was hardly an uproar when the song was released, save for a few blog posts and nothing more. Why isn't Thicke being criticized as well? For all we know, he could have been the one to drag Miley into this and persuaded her to do it!

That's a pretty big accusation to make. What proof do you have that she's mentally ill? Other than being an attention seeker, that is.

Which is exactly my point. Was Miley looking for attention? Without a doubt. But so what? That's not really something to be mocked and looked down at for. Wanting attention isn't nessicarily a bad thing. But, everyone thinks that, because she was dressed like a stripper and provocatively dancing, she's horrible. Well, Robin Thicke's song that she danced to, is promoting that. That song gave her a role to play, and she acted it out perfectly. She didn't come up with all that herself, the idea behind it lies in him lyrics. But, it's just a song, right? It doesn't hurt anyone, it's just music. Wrong. Sure, most people that listen to that song don't have that sort of lifestyle, but every time someone downloads, buys, and listens to it, every time it gains some popularity, it's being promoted. So, why wouldn't Miley do what she did at the VMA's? She gained popularity. She was the most talked about part of the show. She did what everyone expected her to do.

I'm sorry, but I'm quite lost now. What point are we trying to prove exactly, other than Miley Cyrus' performance sucked and it blew up everywhere? Robin Thicke didn't hold a gun to Miley's head and force her to dance to his song. Her behavior was similar to that of her music video for Can't Stop (is that the song?), so it's kinda weird to blame Robin Thicke. I think we've all wasted enough time discussing this BS because Miley got what she wanted. (I think my IQ has significantly dropped in the time I've spent typing this, has yours dropped also?)

It's really not that big of a deal people. So what if she embarrassed herself on national tv? I don't see how this somehow turns us into debating animals.

I don't think anyone is really debating. It's just a good natured conversation, I'm sure one thing we could all agree on is that this thing has gotten much more attention than it's worth.

I don't think either of us was blaming Robin Thicke. It's way bigger than that man that I'd never even heard of before this mess.
I'm saying that the blame lies with us. Every single person who has glorified that lifestyle. Miley Cyrus isn't doing things completely out of the blue and crazy, that no one has ever seen before. It wasn't mind blowing. It was just stupid. She went over the top. But, over all it's not so different from any entertainer present there that night. She has learned that the way to the top is to sexualize her body, her music, and her image.
If that was really looked down upon, if people saw a girl half naked, or dancing provocatively and thought, "How horrible" and quit watching, or if someone listened to a song that said some of the horrible things we listen to today, and thought, "How disturbing" it wouldn't be done. Especially not like it is now.

I doubt anybody chooses their outfits so other people look at them. It may be weird, but hey that's how she made her image.

There's a lot of famous people and celebrities that have done similar things, but I think that this is really disappointing that Miley is doing this to herself.
She is setting a pretty bad image for teenagers that were watching.
Yes people are making a pretty big deal over it but I don't think it's unreasonable. The "Twerk" situation is very unsuitable for anyone to be watching really.

She wanted attention and she got it. Big deal with all the sexualization of our modern society. Sure, the oversexing is bad, but what she's doing, big deal. A ton of people do it, to varying degrees, in the industry. She's just another one of the fame- and money-crazed celebrities who thinks they can do whatever they want.
Let her do whatever she wants to herself. She's won't stop because people like seeing this stuff and it's considered normal.

The question we shoud be asking is not what people like Cyrus are doing to our culture, it's what has our culture has done to them.
