Me and my boyfriend were thinking about having sex but we don't want to use a condom unless we have to. neither of us have stds and I was wondering if the withdrawal method would work.

I saw a study of girls who used this method over the course of 1 year and at the end of the year 20% became pregnant. Precum that leaks out during sex still contains sperm and can get you pregnant and you can't control if and how much precum comes out. Use a condom or get on the pill.

Taryn is right, the withdrawal method is super unreliable. You can make it slightly more effective with some serious cycle monitoring but it still isn't even in the 90% which just isn't enough for me.
Is there a reason you can't get on the pill?

Why would you not wanna use a condom? Unless you're willing to take a serious risk of getting pregnant, then I wouldn't suggest using the withdrawal method. A condom is your safest and easiest choice if you can't get on the pill.

The withdrawal method is completely and utterly unreliable. Are you positive, as in have you both been tested for STDs? There are a lot of birth control options such as the pill, coil, bar, injection, etc.
The pill would be the easiest to obtain. There will most likely be side effects but it's very reliable as birth control.

I tried to post on this last night but internet was being weird.
No, the withdrawal method does not work because there is sperm in precum, and though there is less, there are still chances of getting pregnant, even if you're not at the peak of the month when you are extremely fertile. Why do that type of 'birth control' that is doomed to fail, when there are so many other better options? Tara listed some of them.
I believe if you're not mature enough to protect yourself you're not mature enough to have sex or possibly raise a child.

Considering I was just in with the doctor today about birth control, I can tell you right now that your best bet is to use a condom. Birth control pills will help, yes. But you are not protected against pregnancy in the first month of use and even then it is not 100% on its own. The withdrawal method is a load of crap if anyone says this is effective. If you're an adult willing to have a child, even if unplanned, then sure. But if you're a teen (and I'm assuming you are), no. There are many other types of birth control but when it comes down to it, condoms are most effective (and more so if paired with another form of control like the pill). Sorry, but that's what most people are going to tell you, especially if you are young.

No contraceptive is 100% effective. However, if you want to maximize your chances of having sex without getting pregnant, I would suggest just using a condom.
The withdrawal method is incredibly unreliable, and I wouldn't class it with other contraceptives. If you don't want to get pregnant, don't rely on that alone.
Be safe and have fun xx

You have a good chance of getting pregnant with the witithdrawl method .
Precum has some sperm in it.
Unless you want a baby always use a protection .
