I wanted to make a vBulletin Forum and it turns out it costs 200 dollars to run a forum like VT. How do you get the money???

The person who created the site in the first place paid for it, I think...
I'm probably wrong, but I know the current admin didn't pay $200
If you want a forum, you could go for a free forum software, like phpBB or SMF. Don't use free forum hosts like forummotion or freeforums.org...you won't have access to the server/files, and your control over installing modifications is very limited. That's another story to tell though.

Awkward. I already did it. Twice. One is my sig. And one is another one which I cant say because it says my real name and it has links to a website with a picture of my face.

Oh well. If you want to use one, that's fine, I personally would highly recommend NOT to (I don't, see sig :P)...but whatever :P
Honestly it's not worth paying $200 for a vB forum...especially if you have a hard time trying to get it active

The vB license was bought by a previous admin when the forums moved from phpBB to vBulletin. Other expenses like server costs, the domain name, chat, etc are all paid out of pocket. VT is non profit -- we don't make anything off of the site since membership is free and we don't have any ads.

Wow. Well done. Who created VT?

TheWizard is the founder of VT, and the site was moved to vBulletin in 2007 (or sometime around then) I believe.

Yes, the vBulletin license is a one time fee so if you intend on sticking around it's a great choice.

php? do you mean phpBB? phpBB is free...you just pay for the host, if you use paid hosting...

Vb is around $200, and to be honest it is going a bit downhill ever since XenForo became popular.
However VB6 might revive it!

Dude they're both hosted free, and don't use vBulletin software.
I think the OP should note that the cheapest hosting packages cost circa $10 at a minimum, and that since VT has been running since 2004, this equates to almost ten years of at least $120 a year, with domain name costs maybe contributing a further $10-20 as well as any vBulletin license renewals if they have been bought (which they have) which are usually around $100. VT has costed in excess of a thousand, a thousand and a half dollars or more over the course of its life

Could you make a forum using HTML?

I'll say no, because it'll require other coding (like PHP I believe)....but I may be wrong. Maybe a very very very basic one could be made with HTML....

Creating a system that involves sending information to be stored on a server, and displaying that content automatically is not possible with pure HTML at all.
