Circumcision does not prevent AIDS or HIV or sexual diseases. Sure it might slightly lower the risk of penile cancer, by removal of the foreskin, however it is a rare form of cancer anyway. I understand it is customary in your region, and that's cool, but I strongly disagree with the idea that it is better because "it prevents STDs" or "it's healthy". It isn't really unhealthy either way. Sure there has been some evidence to suggest that the chance of contracting something is slightly reduced, but that is no reason to run and get a circumcision.

I am in Australia. I guess it depends. I'd say around 35% of my friends have had a foreskin removal - some at birth, and one when he was 9 for medical reasons. But it is a dying trend here (It is no longer a standard procedure at birth. Medicare will not pay for the surgery and while the opinion of some doctors may vary, the general view here is that there is no great advantage to a circumcision. It is said that the initial risks of the surgery itself outweigh the benefits). Personally, I am intact.

I'm cut, Most in my circle of male friends it's about 70% cut and it's pretty much 50/50 where I am from in in Canada. In Canada i've noticed certain areas have high rates of cut or uncut. My older brothers have told me of this too.

Okay, without getting too graphic, I understand those studies to a point. However, all of those recent studies took place in South Africa, Uganda and Kenya. A place where the country is still developing with things like education. And with education comes the knowledge of hygiene in terms of things like pulling back the foreskin to clean. It sounds like something obvious to do, but apparently not (that's a long story, but not long ago, I had to explain this to my 12 year old brother, it was awkward). But I can certainly say that lack of hygiene could definitely heighten risks of almost any STD or STI, it seems common sense

But I agree, studies have shown that circumcision lowers the risk, but I think 60% is certainly a drastic statistic. Should those studies be expanded to all continents, I think we might get a better result. In any case, my view is that it isn't a medical necessity and does not (normally) need to be carried out. There are benefits, but I believe the risks outweigh the (arguable) benefits.

I think I have answered this thread, but I am not circumcised. I think it is around 60/40 to uncircumcised, but I know a couple of friends that have had it for medical reasons. But, it will be a "dying trend" here (Australia). Our Medicare has deemed the surgery to be cosmetic and no longer a free surgery (unless required for some reason, but a doctor must state why).

I am NOT saying that circumcised guys don't have great feelings there, but it is a scientific fact that the foreskin that was removed contained MANY nerve endings, which serve to make the sexual experience even more stimulating.

Uncircumcised. And I prefer it this way. It's natural, more hygienic (if you clean it right), and it just seems better (Not that there's anything wrong with cut, it's just a shame that you'd ruin nature. Especially pointing fingers at parents getting their kids cut at birth.)

Actually I was supposed to be circumcised, but the doctor who attempted it couldn't get it done for some reason, so thank him for pretty much saying "F**k it I tried". My parents have asked me if I wanted circumcised numerous times, but I just say no. It's the way God made us...

I agree, and i'm not really religious myself either. I used to be religious, but I pulled away from that stuff after being persuaded and basically forced. I'd say it's nice to be uncut, because to me, it's the natural way.

Your cynicism is noted, but I doubt that there will be a change is the non-circumcision medical recommendation for decades. I am cut, so I am obviously not trying to suggest that the condition of my penis is best. The fact is, 70 years ago, some men lacked appropriate hygiene, which sometimes resulted in balantitis & surgical intervention. Phimosis was also used to justify circumcision, although less than 5 % of boys over the age of 15 cannot fully retract their foreskin.

I am not trying to provide another opinion, I am trying to provide scientific evidence.
