For those who think so, what is so gay about wrestling?

Im just asking. A lot of people think that it is gay and i never understood why. I have wrestled since i was 7 and have played a ton of sports, but wrestling is by far the most physically challenging sport. We go through 2 1/2 hours of running and exercising without water. And after a full match, you are exhausted to your limit.

You friend sucks. It isnt "guys grabbing each others asses". It is a fight. A test of strength. It is the oldest sport there is. And the US military teaches some for hand to hand combat training. Gay men can be strong, and they can serve in the marines. Why would people think that wrestling is a straight sport?

Well in greek times men wrestled naked, so that could be considered gay. However there is no reason wrestling right now should be considered gay.

I should point out that by the tone of your OP, the implication is that because it's a physically trying sport, it's not for gay people, or gay people aren't as capable of it. I don't think you meant to insinuate that, but I'm just saying, that's how I interpreted it. Then again, I could be making something out of nothing; I'm very sensitive when it comes to sexuality and gender. :P

I think it's because of the physicality. It involves a lot of physical contact between two men, which isn't typical of other sports.

What does it matter if it's stereotyped as a "gay" sport anyway? You're responding as though it's a bad thing to participate in something that might be considered gay just because you're not. Gay is rarely ever used derogatorily anymore, so I don't see the harm. You wouldn't take offense if someone assumed you were straight, would you? So why would you take offense if someone assumed you were gay? I also don't see what the correlation is between the sport and its participants' sexual orientation, for that matter.

These people you have heard these ideas from are either homophobic, discriminating, or just in foolish humour. Hopefully they'll grow out of it :D.

Anyways, I don't see any biological reason why gays and other non-straights are any different at or have special abilities in sport. Only the sociological reasons it seems....

I dont think its gay, but here's why people probably think it is. 2 men on the ground, touching eachother all over, grabbing butts, and putting their butt in peoples faces. (Personally i like watching in on tv, just the entertainment)

So i am on my school's wrestling team(varsity 220). the reason people think its gay is because you are rolling around "touching" other men. they don't see it as a test of strength, because out on the mat, you stand alone. you have no team to back you up if you make a mistakes. make one one your back is on the mat getting pinned.

My school's football team use to call the wrestlers gay, then our coach invited the varsity football team to work out with the wrestling team. entire football team threw up only 30 minutes into the work out, wrestlers where maybe starting to break a sweat. So know the football team knows not to mess with us.

and it is because a lot of guys are afraid to stand in a room with 24+ other guys in their underwear to get weighed in. the list goes on and on.

And F.Y.I one of my old assist coaches was gay, but he made it to regional and placed there and he is a black belt in BJJ which he achieved in 3 years.

I have an older bro who wrestles and one who plays football. They argue over which sport is gay. One says in football they are always patting each others butt, getting into a huddle, bending over in front of the QB, his hands under the guys nuts, hugging in the endzone,and making passes at each other. In wrestling lining up behind each other, groping and holding and grabbing anywhere they can, those very tight singlets, and laying on top of each other. And you know what I think about it? Wrestling isn't gay no actual sport is gay just people who play them can be gay but that has nothing to do with the sport and its just guys that think wearing tight clothing and being all clothes and all Orr each other is but that doesn't mean anything
