Or you could just use the edit button.

I agree to this only if it could be disabled in diaries and forums like the VT arcade...and that it would still bump the thread if you want to bump a thread (seen this in some vB forums, though it might only be available for vB 4 or something).
Otherwise people should just learn to use the edit button.

There is less than no reason this needs to be added. Use the edit and multi quote buttons, that's why they're there.
And no, it isn't "already an option."

its a simple mod then and I think it will do no harm, better for moderators and me because I have a bad habbit of double posting

That's on you. Take some responsibility for yourself.

I have responsibility but its a reflex to click reply and not copy and then paste it into my post, and its harmless, I was thinking of this more for the mods but if you guys prefer it the way it is keep it!

We're not going to change the rules and setup of the forum to help one member, it's as simple as using an edit button

To be honest it would have to be turned off for diaries and other forums and then when the OP wants to bump their thread they can't because of the auto merge so there are some many problems with this.
Personally I'd rather users report their own double postings and members report them so us mods can merge them.

They're right. If they change the rules for you, then everyone is going to want a rule changed just for them. Be responsible and use the edit button to ensure you don't double post, and report the post if you do. There isn't a reason to change the system just for a select handful of users, and make it harder on the other people to follow a thread in certain forums. Be less reflexive and proofread to ensure you're done with your post, and edit it later if you want to add something.
