Have any of you had your ball sack get hard for a little bit, then become soft? I am wondering if anyone has had this happen

It's all to do to keep the balls at the optimum temperature for producing and storing sperm. They become looser during hotter weather, and shrivel up more during cold weather.

That's the dartos muscle contracting, it pulls the scrotum in, and therefore brings the testes closer to the body. They're outside the body in the scrotum where they're a bit cooler, sperm production is optimized at a temp. lower than your inner body temp. So, the dartos expands and contracts to keep the testes at a consistent temp. You're noticing it now in puberty b/c the testes are making sperm, and you're probably, just more aware of these things, anyways.

You'll notice that the testes get closer to the body as you approach orgasm and the moment of ejaculation, too.
