Short story, there's a port on the motherboard (google a picture of one and you'll know what I'm on about) where the graphics card will be ( again, google a picture of one if you don't know what they vaguely look like). You need to take the card out of the port by simply pulling it out. Also, it may or may not have a power cable connecting it to the PSU (the PSU will be a big black box in the corner of the tower with a shed load of cables coming out of it). Plug your new GPU into the slot and connect all the relevant cables and boom. New GPU. You may have to get a better, more powerful power supply unit though, depending on the specs of your PC and the model of graphics card you wanted to get.

Sorry, I know I'm not very good at explaining things :P If you need anything else then just ask, I'm sure I or one of the other techie VT members can help

Pull card out. Put new card in. If it's a big one, plug the cables from the power supply into the only spot on it for cables.

We it depends how old it is. Some have integrated graphics cards and not port so you may not be able to upgrade, others the cpu has the graphics, and some you can upgrade depending on the graphics card and pci slot type. If you see a part sticking out and has a fan on it you can upgrade, if you see a pci express slot (google it) then you may upgrade. Just do some research before you get the graphics card. If you have a old cpu some may really bottleneck (slow down) the graphics card and you won't get that much from it you can with a better cpu. It may sound simple to do at first but when you look into it more then you learn you need to have certain stuff before you get better stuff.

not all graphics cards will fit into a motherboard.
"AGP" graphic cards are mostly used in the older computers
PCI-E graphic cards are used in the newer computers
so make sure that before you buy a graphic card, check if your motherboards supports AGP or PCI-E graphic card slot.
