View Full Version : Is the United States ready?

With the elections coming closer and closer there is only one question in my mind Is the United States ready for a black or female president. Discrimination still exists and right now i garuntee that it will show up online or on T.V. with people making uneducated statements about who they want to vote for. As you probably read in my prior posts I'm black and I'm not gonna base my vote soley on Barack Obama becuase he is black in fact I'm voting for Hilary Clinton because i did research and she stands for alot of the same things I do but sadly alot of other African Americans will vote for Obama simply because of his race and members of other races will do anything they can to make sure he and hillary drop out simply because they are not white or that they are female. In my opinion i think that we aren't ready for a black president right now and that hilary should win because she does have experience inside of the white house and during this war that is what we need but will the rest of the united states see it even close to that way? What's your opinion?

My advice is don't vote because of race sex or any physical feature vote because of there views opinions etc.
But to answer the question yes I think the USA is ready.

I really don't understand your question - "Is the United States ready?" Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama are the front runners for the democractic party yet somehow you think that we aren't 'ready'? If the United States wasn't ready Edwards would be in the lead based off your theory.
Why don't you think we can't have a black president? Obama has actually been criticised by some people for not being 'black enough.'
People will vote based off trivial issues like race, gender, religion, etc. That will always happen so what you're presenting isn't really anything new and the fact that you're saying black people wil vote for him because he's black is being very presumptuous and judgemental.
The Clinton's have been very favorable to black people and Bill Clinton has been called 'The First Black President' so you have to take that into account as well.
What I have noticed is that there has become less emphasis on who they are but more of what they stand for, which is good.

It's just that i think of all the possible death threats or even assanination attempts that will happen

Well then you need to ask the question are Hilary and Barack ready. The country doesn't have to prepare itself for a possible assassination attempt, if anything the candidates would.

Of course we are ready for one but I for one don't like Obama's views and I hate liberals like Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney is they best candidate in my mind. If Hillary does manage to get into office which I highly doubt she will I am not going to stay here in America. I'd rather be in Canada or even god forbid Mexico before I would watch America die in the hands of a liberal.

WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN!?
it means that the white population compared to the entire population of races in the country is smaller but compared to each individual race there is alot more

I know that we on here are ready because we're younger and we are growing up in a world where we are learning to accept people more for who they are rather than their appearance but what about the older generation who still don't believe in equality or that a woman or a black dude can do what a white man can as we all know racism is alive and well and i can garuntee that there will be a klan meeting about this

There's not going to be a klan meeting 'about this.' KKK groups meet regularly still in places in America, they don't just get together on special occasions to take out polititians.

ofcourse we are ready for a black president or a female president.
Their race or gender shouldn't determine their ability to lead.
and to doc u said u didnt want to see this country die in the hands of a liberal
but im guessing it is ok that we bleed to death witht his current administration because there is stilla chance we can overcome this with Bush. Instead of some sort of positive change with a new president.

I think that most of the US is ready for a female or an African-American in office. It's just the racists and the narrow-minded that make it seem so bad. As long as Clinton and Obama can stick to their guns and show those fools better, then they will pave the way for others to come into the oval office. If one of them were to win the presidency and show that they are as effective as a white male, then the skeptics will be proven wrong.

I'd actually like to somewhat change my opinion. I think they're ready for a black president, not a woman.
Hilary has claimed that she won't let her emotions overwhelm her when in office. Yet all the major political shows are mocking how many times she's already cried before getting in!

I am for Hilary too. I also think that sadly he will get elected just because he is black but also because people like him. Hilary may get a little bit of the black community also. So no I do not want Obama nor do I think that the US is ready. Because of this: if Obama screws up there wont be another black president for a VERY LONG TIME and I dont think thats good. So yeah thats my opinion.

TheMoon, what if he's amazing and kills racial barriers?
Think of it this way, if you don't want a black president because 'he might mess up and ruin it for the rest of us'
Isn't that the same for ANY black president? That would lead to NEVER having a black president, wouldn't it? :P

Thats a shitty opinion
Basically what you've just told me in that post is you think people are going to vote for him because they like him...well...ya. When you like somebody when you believe they will do a good job you vote for them..
Gathered from what you posted you're entire reason for not wanting him is he'd be a black president and if it turns out people don't like him aka he fucks up then there might not be another one for awhile.....
It's not my country
But I think thats a really shitty reason to dismiss a leading candidate
