After practicing using the internet and previous knowledge on karate shotokan I think it is time to take a new martial art, however there are so many options. I want to practice a striking martial art, not one focused on grappling or maybe one that uses either the bo, kamas, or nunchaku. I prefer it not to be based around katas like shotokan was. Right now bőjutsu, eskrima, kenpo karate, and tae kwon do are on my radar, but I am open to any strike-based martial art, so suggest which one I should take and please explain why.

I've always wanted to learn Muay-Thai, but there isn't any place near me that teaches it.

personally i do Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and BJJ
Muay thai is by far the most practical, as traditional scoring in Thailand is based on how much pain you can inflict...

Jeet Kun Do(dont know if i spelled it right) By the master of all martial arts Bruce Lee. I am more into weapon/Recreational use of weapons. I flip a balisong, and it makes for great hand exercise. Its similar to Nunchukas but with a knife. It is a Filipino style martial art. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcZsFPAmIFM skip to 2:40 for flipping, watch from the beginning for some of the knives.
This is the "American" style which is designed for fun, the Filipino style is for combat.

i have been practicing Muay Thai for 9 years and Krav Maga for 5. either one will do. both are very strenuous so you will stay very fit. Muay thai is more showy, but also more practical for simple self defense.

Balisong is the name of the knife, not a martial art.

I didnt say it was the name of the martial art, i said i flip one. It has a martial art built around it.

it really doesn't. it is a knife. balisong flipping may be an art, but you are misusing the term martial art. just because i can efficiently take down a target with a 9 mm pistol, does not make that a martial art.

Yeah it is a martial art. It is in Kali and Arnis fighting. I have a few links to the martial art.

If a Shaolin Monk uses a staff, swords, or a rope chain, does that make what hes doing not a martial art?

this is quoted from you. i did not say that weapons could not be used in martial arts. i sail that the weapon is not a martial art. balisong flipping is not a martial art either.

I'd say Tang Soo Do, but maybe I'm biased.

I've seen a bunch of Tang Soo Do vs Tae Kwon Do fights and almost every time I have seen Tae Kwon Do dominating, I have fought a few times against a few Tang Soo Do practitioners and I have been disappointed, unlike Tae Kwon Do which has way more interesting kicks.
