I feel that they are all "real" art. Art is subjective, meaning that it has a different meaning between different people. Some people appreciate some art more than others, and vice versa, but that shouldn't really discredit a photo as art just because it isn't b&w, HDR or a landscape, or at least I don't believe it should.

I personally like landscape (especially HDR) and night star photography.
I think that any picture can be classified as "real art" in it's own way.
Every photographer prefers a certain category mostly because they find it the easiest/more rewarding/most enjoyable to take photo's of. So the answer to that question depends on who you are.

my favorite category is landscapes and long-exposure. but art depends on the person. if you feel like its not art, then to you its not art. if you do then to you it is.

What is art? It is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. All styles of photography is art because they all require skill. It depends on what you like.

I personally love landscape, street, and events. Events are fast paced and fun; you get different reactions and emotions.

Landscape sounds easy, but you have to consider the price of getting to your destination, the patience for that right moment and making sure YOU DON'T miss the shot, the right equipment, AND food equipment supplies clothing ,etc. I don't think nobody likes to hike up mountains with a giant 400mm and a tripod along with camping supplies.

Street photography sounds easy, you just go out and shoot people. But you have to be good with people and defusing situations, especially nowadays where people think it's illegal to shoot on public property. You have to get creative, and constantly look for the right moment/people.

Wedding photography's crazy. You have to plan, have all your gear ready, set up flashes, etc. Everything's one time shot, hit or miss. I've done events and they're the same, but not as hard as weddings.

There's tons and tons of categories: HDR, light painting, time lapse, long exposure, kids, etc.. I think a crazy one is War photography. That stuff looks really hard!
