I was just thinking an "Anxiety Disorders" section might be a good idea. I mean I know Anxiety is often lumped with depression but it really is completely different. There are a huge amount of debilitating Anxiety Disorders that don't seem to have a place in the Psych Ward somehow.

It's difficult to know where to post about it and how to find other people suffering with it too here. It's one of the most common type of mental illness and it seems to be by-passed on here.

EDIT: OCD is also an anxiety disorder, so maybe a new section for "Anxiety Disorders and OCD" might be useful but as an independent section rather than a subsection of "Mental Illnesses" as they are both a lot more common than Schizophrenia etc especially in teenagers.

I agree with that, I mean the other sub forums don't get that much traffic, this definitely would. I have no idea where to post about that/what to do with the ones that are posted, if there was a designated section, I'm all for it. I mean, I wouldn't dedicate a whole forum, maybe a sub forum?

I'm definitely here for it.

I think this has even been suggested before but never took off, but as a sufferer of a bad anxiety disorder, I'd really like it.

A subforum is better than nothing Siobhan but I personally think that if Eating Disorders and Self-Harm have a whole forum then Anxiety Disorders & OCD could certainly warrant one. However if the general consensus is to use a sub-forum then i'm more than happy with that progress, but as you said it's likely to get a lot more traffic than the other sub-forums hence why I think a forum may be a better idea.

(I may be using "forum" and "Sub-forum" wrong anyway :p I'm talking about Cutting &Self-Harm as a forum and stuff like "Schizphrenia" as a sub-forum)

I agree with the idea, especially incorporating OCD into it, I'd like to see a new sub forum added into psych ward for Anxiety disorders and OCD instead of where OCD currently is, it does look out of place put where it is at the moment

Sure this sounds like a good idea

So this is actually being discussed among staff already as a subforum.

I can't imagine it'd go straight to a forum at the moment, but it's good as a subforum, then yeah I don't see why not. But yeah, this is possibly.

(For the record, I'm using like each individual place to post as a forum (given when you go to one, it says "forumdisplay.php?f=__") and then like the ODC and ADHD are subforums because they're sub of the parent forum?

But people wouldn't post there because people don't see it and therefore people wouldn't get as many replies. Putting it as a forum in it's self invites more people to post in it. People who perhaps don't have a disorder but feel anxious about something etc or people who don't have the disorder but have valuable advice for the people who do. I think putting it under "mental illness" makes it too exclusive. Anxiety disorders cover a huge amount of things from generalised anxiety disorder to social anxiety to OCD to phobias. It is the most common form of mental illness, so surly it deserves a place just as much as depression and eating disorders? The three biggest causes of mental illness in teenagers but anxiety is overlooked?

I know Suggestions isn't exactly where I'm supposed to post a lot but I saw that there was a new post (on the tapatalk app it says unread posts and usually when on the app that's where I find topics to post on) and wanted to add my input and support this. It's a great idea!
I think the idea of putting it as a subforum first makes sense because then you can see if it takes off- if it's just the same 3 people posting then it's bot worth making into a whole forum.
Plus, I think a lot more people see subforums than you think. I'm pretty sure a new forum is a big deal.
I have no anxiety and little OCD but I will support this wholeheartedly!

I agree with Kathy, lumping OCD and Anxiety in togther to form its own forum would be a good idea. I think there would be justified traffic. Perhaps an idea would be if this was implemented to use the Psych ward mods or Gmods to go through the Depression forum in particular, and move threads with relevence to anxiety or OCD into it to give it a head start? This worked well when the F&F forum was created a few years back by moving threads from R&D that had more of a family or friend influence.

Personally while I'm in favour of the section as it will be helpful I do think it will run the risk of going down the line of the other Mental Illness subforums. Most of them are now inactive and you're luck if they get a new thread every now and then. I do support the right for a new subforum but I honestly think it will just become inactive after awhile.

I don't. The sub forums are inactive because they are sub forums. And like I pointed out, Anxiety is a much more common issue than any of the subforums. As is OCD. Schizophrenia effects 1% of the population as a whole whereas it is estimated that as many as 10% of teenagers will experience anxiety disorders at some point.

That's exactly right.
