I'm not from the US so I bet some people here might know it better than me but the way I always thought it goes.
You go elementary school, and after that you take 4 years of high school which you finish (on average) at 18 followed by College which is 4 years instead of 3 like some EU countries.
Middle School if I'm not mistaken is Junior High, which should mean the first 2 years of high school (grades 9 & 10)
Hope that clears something up

4th Grade
5th Grade

6th Grade

8th Grade
High School or Senior High
9th Grade
10th Grade
11th Grade
12th Grade
College or University
Associates Degree
Bachelor Degree
Master's Degree
Doctorate Degree
Some schools in America combine elementary school and middle schools into a K-8 school and sometimes even high school which is a K-12 school. Also some school have an Early College Program in which the students would learn 9th and 10th Grade material one school year and then 11th and 12th grade material another school year. Then in their final two years they would learn material on whatever studies they choose on a college level, so when you're finished with the program you would've gained your high school diploma AND your two year Associate's Degree.
Any other questions?

Pre-school is usually 2 years. It's not required though.
Elementary School
Kindergarten
1st grade
2nd grade
3rd grade
4th grade
5th grade
Middle School
6th grade
7th grade
8th grade
Lower Class High School
9th grade (freshman year)
10th grade (sophomore year)
Upper Class High School
11th grade (junior year)
12th grade (senior year)
From here you can choose to go to college. Note that college here is 4 years to get a bachelors degree instead of 3 in Europe.
