Death is not an option;
living is.
But fear keeps anchoring
our timid ships.
Like the bloody needle and thread
you've used to stitch
the truth that lies behind your loose lips.
Shhh....don't let your dreams speak,
because our deaf hearts only know a steady beat,
for they've forgotten to run.
And every set of eyes have become accustomed
to the distance away from the sun.
Muscles are all that pull us along now
as if our heartstrings have been surgically cut out
and every blacktop slab of road led you back to precisely where you were found.
We no longer capture dreams alongside
fireflies
in jars
because our hands shake when we reach out too far.
We have forgotten we were once stars.

I know this is pretty blergh and needs to be polished, but I just wrote this quickly to expand on a 6-word poem I wrote the other day. Also, it's extremely metaphorical, so if you don't understand it......I do not apologize. It's basically about people not actually living out of fear or...whatever it may be.
