When a government collects taxes, what should it be responsible for as for what to do with the money?

What kind of a debate is that?...

The money should go towards public things, like fixing sidewalks, funding programs, etc.

Is debating how government should spend its own citizen's money that hard to understand?

The American government has budgeted to spend nearly 3 trillion dollars this year, which is assuming they stay completely on budget and that they don't overspend, which is likely.

So my question to all of you is, what should government do with our money and what shouldn't it spend money on. Its ultimately money the citizens have earned.

Not true. A society cannot function without taxes. Its just the nature of how some are spent I don't all agree with.

Maybe, but you have to remember we deficit spend and are in massive debt. All shifting the buden to my generation. Borrowing may delay the pain for awhile but debt and the interest on it, is eventually paid through taxation.

Canada is what you call an aging population, more people are dying and retiring than are being born

Our taxes are going to increase as a result down the road

Ah taxes and what it should be spent on is a big circle really, we elect a governement of the people for the people to collect money that we gave them a mandate to spend, as when we voted them in they said what they would do with taxes, so we authorised it, in effect we are spending our own taxes.

Anyway I come a country with fantastic social welfare system, that looks after everyone, or at least tries to. So I believe our money should be spent on social needs first and foremost. Look after the people first. I know defense needs to be looked after but at the expense of looking after the people, I think is not good.

But I am from a totally neutral country, we take no sides, we have no enemies, no one wants to bother us, we have a tiny defense budget. My two cents.

Right I really think this is something only a 5 year old should be told..

So lets see in a pretty little world far far away in a galaxy beyond it should go like this.

A country has elections, as usual for every campaign everyone makes dozens of promises and such..

So usually these promises are good but lets lay it out what should money be used for..

Medical funding, education, wellfare, proper funding of government establishments.. ( Like here we have the national railroad and the usual government paid jobs ), infrastructure ( as in good roads, good public transportation.. ) ok I can't keep on going with a damn list but what I do know is

A real country should have a education system that allows people a reasonable amount of choice ( as in what fucking language to study as your C language and what areas to concentrate on, ugh by this I mean the basic 2 groups of subjects, humatarian and ( I have no idea how to put it in English ) but basically all the shit that I hate: Maths, grammatics etc...

And a real country would have a education system where there are proper schools with PROPER STAFF who actually can teach our children and raise them, since a school should be a place where people get taught some morals and principles in life. Same goes even for kindergarden

A real country would have healthcare that supported everyone, it would have proper hospitals where people work happily as in they don't run off to work in another country as soon as they get a chance, and for that PAYING people is a good idea!

A real country would have a proper infrastructure, good roads, good public transportation, good railroads, good waterways, good airways. Which are well maintained...

A real country would make sure its citizens are being treated fairly in the economy, in other words they don't sell their people for money and take away their rights with some fucked up laws.

A real country would do all they can to increase self productivity and maintain economical balance, as in they wouldn't sell everything to some foreigners and as in they wouldn't destroy their own goods, such as agriculture..

A real country would value its culture and heritage, they wouldn't let important, historical places to rot away and such..

A real country would also have a real justice system, not a system where a murder is worth 5 years and a kidnapping 1 years in parole ( if your a rich guy )..

But in reality all that our governments do is try to do anything the can to enforce the rule of their masters, create bullshit election laws and such.

All that would need to be done is to get rid of those fucks who steal anything they get their hands on and for the people to grow some backbone so they'd actually fight for their rights..

Now I am pissed off since I was thinking about my own country, but don't worry the same applies to every country on the planet some just have it worse than others.

See I would NEVER want Canada to be like that though
I mean if it works for you power to ya but
I like the fact that we stand by our allies
NATO

We've had massive military increases most of it from taxes
and i think its brilliant

I'm Canadian were peace keepers we invented peace keeping and have been on more peace keeping missions than any other UN member

But were not afraid to fight
I like that

I personally think our taxes should be restructured a lil so that those who have more pay a lil more in taxes cause they can easily manage it
to go towards gov programs like health care, education, military, etc...

governments should focus on spending money on the key things such as health, defence, transport, roads and education. then splurge a little on little or one off things such as sporting venues and things like that.

in britain our government spends about £60 billion each year on a healthcare system that is still barly functional.

they should spend more on things like education and defence and instead make the NHS more econmical.
