and maki is a general term for any 'rolled' sushi.

As for me, I have a lot of favorites. :D

Ikura gunkan maki is probably my absolute favorite. Ikura is just... simply awesome.

Ehhh. Not a fan of ōtoro. To me, it's just obscenely fatty. Sometimes they get the delicate flavor right though. Gonna have to go with chūtoro nigiri as my favorite for tuna.

Tai is a no brainer. I definitely want to try it matsugawa tsukuri style sometime though.

Sake nigiri. Supposedly dangerous due to the higher chance of getting worms with raw salmon, but I like it a lot.

But I think I may have found a new favorite.

No matter how weird it sounds, hear me out.

Sardines with their skin still on, along with shiso, in a thin roll. It tasted amazing. The sardines were fatty, fresh, and the shiso provided a nice herbal counter to what would otherwise have been a rather fatty and unrefined sushi.

It was awesome. And the fish, being as the sushiya was right next to Tsukiji, was so fresh. I loved it immensely.

My favorite would be the Kappa Maki. The contrast in texture between the thin and snappy seaweed, the sticky and filling rice, and the crunchy and juicy cucumber just make my day.

I'm not insanely adventurous on this front, just when I'm out with someone else and I try one of their rolls. I don't spontaneously order things I don't know if I'll like. Spicy tuna roll is my staple though. My girlfriend knows a lot about sushi, but of course all she ever orders is the vegetarian ones.

I hate California rolls though. I think it's the avocado; it cuts my sushi selection in half on average.
