View Full Version : Things That Make You Feel Better

What are some things that help pick you back up when you're in one of "those" moods? A lot of people find things like reading, writing, music, art, tea and deep breathing to be very relaxing and use them to calm themselves down.

I know that whenever I'm feeling down I usually listen to music -- it helps ease my mind. What do you do?

A good plate of food and a full stomach. I get myself in a better mood by eating, like not obsessively but I really like food. I drink some coffee too, helps with the nerves, strangely. Going for a walk though, will forever be the one thing that can get me out of that mood. Especially in the rain listening to calm acoustic music. I like being outdoors when I feel really low, I'm not a nature freak but the sound of rain or the smell of the woods just brings my soul to a nice peaceful place.

Watching Friends, literally it's my comfort blanket. I've seen every episode about 50 times but I still love it to pieces

I listen to music when I'm upset, but usually its sad songs, which somehow helps. I come on VT a lot, and giving advice helps too. Then I have my twitter and my youtube, and I'm good :D

When I feel bad I lock myself in my room and listen to music and try to block everything out and focus on myself and then start dreaming about a nice future and that usually makes me feel better.

I have once and once only tried to resort to drinking to feel better and it actually worked lol, I have only done it ONCE though, don't want to go down that path, a guy I know died from it and my uncle is on the verge of dying from it. Usually I listen to music, heard somewhere that sad songs creates positive emotions not sure if 100% true but I can relate in some aspects. Talking to a friend on the phone or face to face usually helps also.

Listen to music, go for a walk or go play with my dogs. since I'm usually stuck at the house (my post count proves that) going for Chinese food or a pizza helps.

Cats are the best antidepressants, 'cept one of them is still missing, so that's pretty depressing, so, watching the Shaytards vlogs. I'm currently trying to watch all 1600 of them or however many, I'm on 400 something.

When I'm feeling down, singing is usually what cheers me up. If I sing a sad song or maybe a more angry sounding song, it really helps me get those negative feelings out of my system. Afterward I might sing a more up beat song to cheer up. If that's not enough watching my favorite anime or writing can help lift my mood. :)

A cigarette, good music, and a pill on my tongue usually does the trick. I am in no way promoting this though. Well, I definitely promote music.

I might sound like a phsyco but i like to grab my guns and take them apart to clean the an oil them and put them back together. They're comforting because of all the parts that fit and work together perfectly.

This can sound relatable to some people, and just plain dumb to others, but I go out and railfan. I'll go get my camera, walk to the station, and take pictures of the passing trains and buses, and other points of interests in between. I just love photography because it's a way of de-stressing my mind.

Of course, if I can't go out (case in hand it's 12:30AM and i'm in bed), I just put on some music that has meaning to me until I'm either calm or I just cry myself to sleep. As long as i'm alone, I think crying is a great tension reliever and makes me feel better afterwards.

I simply need a quiet place to stop and think. Somewhere that I can go to relax and perhaps I may even color in a picture of some sort. It is just a soothing feeling to slide the colored pencil along the inside edge of the line and creating a full and richly colored picture that I can focus on evening out the small imperfections in the colors. My heart rate just slows down significantly and I don't have to worry about the outside world for a while, just coloring inside the lines for a bit.

I love assisting people who need a little help. It just tells me that I'm doing something right. It can make a big difference in someone's life no matter how little and insignificant the support may seem. :D
