Ok so um like this is kind of a stupid question, but what is a gyno exam? Also the proper age to get one? Thanks

A gynecologist, or a gyno, is a vagina doctor. A gyno exam is when a gynecologist examines a woman's vagina. Usually women start getting exams regularly between the ages of 18-25 but if you are sexually active, think you have a UTI, etc, many gynecologists will examine teens.

actually a gyno is not just a vagina dr but a women's health dr...they will make sure all your girly parts are ok but also make sure you don't have any issues with your breasts such as lumps etc...he/she will teach you to self exam and will also do things like paps smear and all kinds of tests that make sure your vagina, uterus and other bits are a ok :) I started going right after puberty

I started going at 16 years old, at the same time there is no age to start as there are even gyno for little girls if they have some problems.

Hey thanks for asking this, I haven't had one and I've been wondering about it and I didn't have anyone to talk to about it and I felt really stupid asking it here.

My regular doctor scheduled me for a gynecologist when I was 12 because my cycle was so irregular and when my period would come it was so heavy they wanted to check. I was super freaked out about it. But honestly it wasn't that big a deal. I got an exam and an ultrasound to look at my tubes and ovaries and uterus all that. It was determined everything was fine and this type of thing isn't that uncommon. I guess I was happier knowing nothing was really wrong. Now I have annual checks. So if a doc does tell ya to go don't be too afraid.

I had my first gyno when I was 16 and had my second on my 17th birthday. There's nothing to be afraid of except the spectrum. If it's plastic then it's fine but if it's metal, ask her to warm it up before she uses it. When you lie on the table, you think you are about to give birth. LOL

The others explained it perfectly, I go on a normal basis because of problems with periods.
