The thought just occurred to me. I'm 18 and I've been old enough to learn to drive for two years now and everyone keeps asking me why I haven't. It's not that I don't know how to drive the car (although I'd still have to learn properly for my license)... it's the other drivers that scare me. Then again, I come from Toronto which is steadily climbing up the list of worst traffic in North America. So I was petrified there. Nowadays I live in London (Ontario) which is a lot smaller and a lot calmer but driving still scares the everliving shit out of me.

I just don't want to learn to drive. The problem now with living in a smaller place is I may have to. Anyone else like this?

I'm 15 and a lot of my friends at least have permits, and my older friends have driver licenses. My mom won't take me to get one, even though my dad thinks its fine. Personally, I do want to learn, but it dies scare the crap out of me. Florida drivers are STUPID and there are so many situations where im like if I was driving, I wouldve crashed. Not to mention im 5'2" so yeaa im scared lol

For me driving is fun (even though I've only been doing it for 2 or so weeks). Although, I've always had an interest in cars, so I may be different :P

Me. I'm the same age and still can't drive. Nor can my 20 year old brother. I haven't even looked a driving manual or whatever :P

I don't really want to learn to drive either.

I learned to drive when I was 15 and sometimes I still panic and forget things like "how do I turn on my car" or "what the fuck how do I do a proper u-turn".

Once you accept that you have to drive, as in you have no other choice, you'll be fine. I was the exact same way. I had zero interest in learning, but once I had to because of work and school, and my mom being an alcoholic I just accepted it and got used to it.

It's really not all that bad, but my advice to you would to try your best to not be too much of a cautious driver, because in my experience that has been the most dangerous. Not other drivers, or because the "streets were wierd" but because I over reacted, and over thought.

I started driving when I was 14 (taking driver's ed). When I was 15 I received my permit and after 6 months I received my license. I'll be 17 in August and I'll have been driving for almost 3 years now.

Once you get the hang of it, it's not as scary.

I'm only comfortable with my driving because I am in control. Other people driving has always scared me throughout my entire life and it probably always will.

I'll admit, I am tense and stressed out when driving through large cities but the more I do the less worried it makes me.

Driving will be scary at first but in the long run it is so worth it.

Totally. You can never tell when some crazy driver will suddenly run into you >.<
Maybe take taxis or a bus to get to places until you feel more comfortable.

I'm not old enough to get my permit yet but it does scare me. I mean, I live in a suburb now but my dad wants to move back into the city. City driving scares me

I'm legal to drive, I want to but I just don't want to learn. I have a hard time listening to instructions as it is.

Nope, I'm not afraid of driving, I just prefer to ride in the passenger seat and not worry about anything. But it wasn't too hard to learn, it just takes time to improve, and I'm not "afraid" unless I'm in a big city or a dangerous neighborhood (which can happen if you take a wrong turn in NJ).

I'm 13 and sooo excited to learn to drive. I often help my mom.. you can't count on your fingers and toes how many times we would have missed exits driving on the highway if I didn't say "Mom that's our exit", and how many illegal right turns on red we would have done (where I live you can right on red after complete stops, but sometimes in busier intersections signs say 'no turn on red' and my mom misses them a lot). she's not a super fantastic amazing driver (goes pretty fast for a minivan, speeds up when she sees yellow lights rather than slows down and ends up going through red lights, doesn't always use blinker, etc) and it makes me nervous.. In Massachusetts where I live there is a term called 'massholes' because MA drivers are know for being asshole drivers. Mom makes fun of em but she is totally a masshole though she's from Maine.

When I was about your age I never even considered getting a permit. A year afterwards I still wouldn't get one, even though most of the kids my age at my school had them and could drive to school...I still had to have my mom drive (or I rode the bus)

Um, okay....

In my particular state, you've got to be 16 before you can get your permit, and your GP and such need to sign off on it and all that jazz. Mine didn't sign off on mine until 8 months after I turned 16, and then finally 2 months after that in June, I decided I was ready to get it. I was terrified, but I'm so glad I did. Super, super scary.

I got my license in January, and I'm loving it. It was terrifying, and I do get scared every time I get behind the wheel, however I just do it anyways. Something tells me I'll likely be a bit scared each time, but sometimes, fear is good. If you go into something not scared at all and such, you might um.. what's the word like.. not really as careful as you might be if you're scared, if that makes any sense.

Honestly, I think at this point, my parents are more scared than I am.

Before I learnt to drive I was convinced that my life would be a combination of people driving me places, taking trains or taking buses. I was scared to drive. Dad made me learn with a professional instructor, and in the end it wasn't scary anymore. You just have to bite the bullet and go for it. Once you gain confidence, you will not only be confident in your own ability, but also to prepare yourself for bad drivers around you. I've been driving now for over 3 years including my learning time, and now i'm confident, even after a minor crash I was in on that evil Pennant Hills Road 2 years ago that was my fault either lol. But seriously Jo, and others not sure about driving, it's all about building confidence, and once you've done that, you'll be fine. Good luck. :)

Yes. Terrified. I've seen a lot of shit drivers on the road, and I'd rather not deal with them. Plus, controlling such a metal monster like a car isn't exactly a bike ride.

I am old enough to have lessons now but I'm not sure if I want to. If you're not at least a bit scared then you're probably the kind of lunatic whose driving makes everyone else scared :P

At first driving was super fun to me. I got my license a week after I turned 16. And I had motorcycle temps since I was 14 1/2. I've been driving and I love it. Only thing is now is that it's just part of life, I put between 3k-4k miles on my truck every month and its just not as fun as it used to be. I now have an Avalanche SS so I do have some "fun" every once in a while with that.

I love driving. It's really relaxing...until you're in traffic. LOL.

I'm more afraid of the day that I can't drive.

I can drive, however I live in a city where the roads are horrible and there is absolutely no organization, so I am only willing to drive in places where there are decent roads.

I drive around car parks with my under 17's driving class and stuff but i'd be terrified to start on the roads.

It depends what I'm driving. If I'm driving my dads truck I'm scared shitless. If I scratch that thing I'm gonna get killed. If I'm driving my moms care I really don't care

Not really, only thing I get worried about is getting into an accident and having the airbags go off. Other than that, I have no problem

I admit, I did wait around awhile to get my permit and later, license.
I'm not exactly scared od driving, I just prefer it when someone drives me.
I feel like mommy and daddy's little princess. :P
