Ok, so there is a video that has hit the youtubes. I find it delightful, humorous, and actually a good idea. However, there are people making a big fuss over the topic at hand.

The video is a girl 11-12, that gets her first period at camp. Since she's the first one of all of her friends, she naturally assumes the role of "leader." Unfortunately this is an add for a product; but it is done in a nifty way.

I'm going to share this video. Not because I believe in product placement (although seriously the premise is nice) but because it involves first periods, information, and a sharp reaction to it (the comments are good, bad, and ludicrous).

When you were that age, would have preferred a parent/friend to take on the role of this girl in the video? Would it have made you uncomfortable, or grateful to have someone to talk to? What is your reaction to the video?

@ Mods : This video contains no explicit language, and no nudity. However, it does include a product being advertised. If you feel it breaks the rules in some form, please let me know. I will remove the link and write up a synopsis. Thanks.

Okay, well I mean, it's a little inappropriate, I guess, but it's funny.

It is add for TOM "care packages" that are delivered in a discreet matter. It's mostly all you need to keep you clean and happy during those days, in a box.

After discussing this over with another mod, we just wanted to give a general post. This thread and the video are fine, and the thread won't be locked, so no need for people to report this etc. However, if the advertisement part of the video starts to get talked about.. then well this thread will be gone with the flow. :P

Which is why I offered to summarize in case such a thing happened. I have no problem deleting the link, and writing up a summary of the video. I'm a person, not a troll or robot, so I can show some flexibility when it comes to things. Especially things that might have the almighty ban hammer. I will change things, so you don't have to instantly remove the post. Just let me know if something needs changed.

@ the rest of vt : These questions, "When you were that age, would have preferred a parent/friend to take on the role of this girl in the video? Would it have made you uncomfortable, or grateful to have someone to talk to? What is your reaction to the video?" Are the ones that I used to make this video relevant to the puberty forums. Interestingly enough, people aren't really answering them.

I did have someone to talk to. I was well informed coming up onto my "red badge of courage," but I did serve the roll of camp gyno for a few of my friends whose parents weren't as open about sharing information. I know I was grateful to have someone to talk to, and to my knowledge my friends appreciated my information.

My reaction is that of humor. I like the approach of the video, and glad it sheds some light on what would otherwise be a scary situation. I am not a fan though, of the opinions that this video sexualizes the girls. To me, they are talking about body parts, and something natural, and that sex has nothing to do with it. But that is just my opinion, what is yours?

I just saw it for the first time and it's kind of funny. But there is one element I found interesting. Tampon means tampon with application. Is this the standard way of a tampon in the usa? I never saw or used one with application, I just use my finger.

I watched this and totally understand how she must have felt. The first time is always scary
I remember my first time. I was also away at camp but I had other friends who were able to support me :)

Well geez, guys are always joking about their puberty, and all of a sudden girls talking about theirs is forbidden? That's just sexist. I guess it's because people are used to girls being REALLY private and sensitive and things like that, so seeing a girl open and comortable talking about her period is weird to some people. I got mine when I was 11 and I was actually excited. I was running around telling my family ( 0_0)
I looked it all up on the internet, so it wasn't any surprise, and my mom had told me about a year earlier about it, so I was thrilled that it finally came.
