A couple of my friends dip, have asked me to try etc. i have no intention because it completely screws your mouth. My question is what are your thoughts on chewing/dipping

I kinda think it's gross, although i've never tried it. It doesn't look or sound appealing to me.
And yeah, if you don't want to try it, then don't.

I wouldn't do it. I do not see ANY benefit at all to doin it.

Oral cancer is a lovely benefit.....if your the dipper's oncologist!
Yeah, I think chewing tobacco is nasty and messy, not to mention dangerous. If you swallow even a little bit of the tobacco juices (what chewers spit out) than you could get extremely sick!
Don't try it, trust me!

Innocent, naive, clueless.....it all amounts to the same thing:
You aren't endangering your life with stupid crap like chewing tobacco. ;)

Apparently you get a head rush with a side of oral cancer, yellow teeth, deteriorated gums, and teeth falling out

Also like someone mentioned swallowing it is bad

I hate how my friends do it

Well, just be glad that while their teeth are falling out and girls are avoiding them like the plague for fear of being spitten-upon, you're sitting nice and healthy and tobacco free! ;)

The most annoying thing is that when someone that chews will say, "I've known a person that chewed their ENTIRE life and didn't have one single health problem!"

The absolute worst argument.

Just because something doesn't happen to someone else, doesn't mean it won't happen to you.

I don't see the benefit of ingesting tobacco in any form. Especially when the can on chew says: WARNING: MAY CAUSE CANCER.

You're all a bunch of wuzzies lol...

To understand why people dip you have to understand the addiction. Nicotine addiction is far stronger than heroin addiction, fact. I've met people that were heroin addicts and were able to quit heroin but have been smoking cigarettes (and still do so) since they were 14 years old.

I have myself been smoking since I was 14 as well, and on environments in which you can't smoke and get your nicotine fix, you are forced to use desperate measures. I lived in a boarding school in which I couldn't smoke, but of course I would. I would smoke at night, 2-3 in the morning but how about the rest of the day when I couldn't get my fix? I dipped. Same on airplanes, or any other situation that you can think of.

It is true that not all smokers dip, I did so because I was an addict looking for a fix in a place I had to conceal it, but a lot of people do dip without smoking because its an rather enjoyable thing to do (or at least your brain makes you think so), or cultural or whatever reason, its their body and they decide what to do with it. It is very disgusting, you have to keep spitting that dirty nasty mix of spit with tobacco, you mouth smells like pus if you do it too much, it makes your lips sore inside because it contains glass fibers to cut you on purpose... there are very bad things about it, just don't judge people that do it without knowing what you're talking about.

Personally I've tried just about every drug available in my area... Except dip, it seems pretty nasty and the smell alone makes me nauseous. I don't recommend trying it.

Dipping can be an alternative to cigarettes if you're unable to smoke and are trying to get your nicotine fix, as mRojas2000 said. I don't dip because I'm just not a fan of it. I don't like the taste and if you swallow any of the spit you will throw up. Is it worth trying? no, same as cigarettes. The buzz you get from dipping is very similar to the buzz you'd get from a cigarette, but in time you won't feel the same buzz as your tolerance to the nicotine will gradually go up.

It doesn't completely screw your mouth, if you are consistent with brushing, flossing, and rinsing (with mouthwash) it should have little to no effect on your mouth.

Dipping relieves stress, which can be very good for some people. Other people just like the feeling of it or the taste of it.

I believe if you're under enough stress than can cause bodily damage, you should do whatever you must to relieve that stress.

I think the whole idea of it is gross plus the smell of it makes me sick! i've never tried it myself although i've been offered, but my brother tried it once with a friend and he said it was gross and after like an hour he said he had an awful headache. not something i ever want to do.

I would not do it. Not good for you and bad for your teeth. It can be bad.

It's generally pointless.

Tobacco products cause a very mild buzz, and then about 40 years of spending excessive amounts of money for something that has become nothing but a habit to keep you sane while you wait for your doctor to tell you that you either quit or risk your life with a developing medical condition.
