Quote from the article -
Pope Francis on Monday continued to recast the Catholic Church’s image by focusing on its inviting, merciful aspects, this time shocking a planeload of reporters by saying of homosexuality: “Who am I to judge?”

“If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them?” the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics said in a remarkably candid and off-the-cuff news conference en route to Rome from Brazil. “They shouldn’t be marginalized.”

I'm not really religious, however I'm extremely thrilled about these comments, and I absolutely love this Pope dude. I knew eventually someday, we'd have an LGBT accepting Pope, but I would have never guessed it would be this soon and with this particular Pope. :yeah:

Seriously, I don't think anyone understands how huge this is. The leader of one of the worlds largest religions is LGBT accepting. I mean, oh my gosh.

This is a huge step for Christianity, as well as gay rights. I mean, a lot of people like me get a lot of shit for being Christians, because of all the hate that some people dish out, hiding behind my religion. I mean, the Pope is actually spreading love and acceptance. Wow.

Great, now learn to accept female priests -_-

Haha, for real. Although I don't see that happening anywhere in the near future.

I am Catholic, and when I heard this I was thrilled. One of the things I hate about Catholicism is that it hatea to change it's ways. I have no problem with gay people, so for the Pope to say that is amazing to me.

Right? I mean this is amazing. The Catholic church doesn't change. Like, ever. This is so huge, why aren't people more excited about this.

He was talking about gay priests, not all gay people. Yet another case of the media reporting what it wants to report and not giving full context to anything. He was asked, specifically, about the presence of gay priests. According to the Pope, as long as they accept God, he won't judge them.

Okay, then are you telling me that the Pope is going to say that gay priests are okay but not gay civilians. NO.

There ya go. That's exactly what he was asked and it's exactly how he answered. He never mentioned gay civilians, just gay priests.

First on this thread: This new pope is more down to earth than Benedict. he said that the amazon should be treated as the garden of eden and that rich ppl should give their money to help the poor.

Great, now learn to accept female priests -_-

There are female priest but just not in the catholic church. which sucks, cuz at me confirmation camp, my head priest was a lady and she was so chill.

I'm not going to argue with you Debbie Downer, just be happy that it's at least a step forwards.

I'm not being a Debbie Downer? I'm just saying that he only talked about gay priests, not gay civilians. Until he talks about gay civilians and how no one, including him, has no place to judge them, I'm not going to believe a word the man says.

He made a comment that made me believe that he meant all civilians. I mean, you can't know how he feels about it unless he makes the distinction clear. I imagine we'll find out though.
