Ive been homeschooled since the middle of 6th grade. And for the last 3.5 years I've sat home alone every day while my parents work. As someone who's struggled with depression and anxiety it isn't good for me. And this is the summer before my sophomore year, I think I want to suck it up and go back to public school. But honestly, I'm scared. I dont even really remember how school works. I feel like it will be hard having to go into high school as a sophomore and be expected to know my way around and know everything even though I won't. And because of that, part of me just wants to stay home again this year. I'm kind of looking for other people's opinions. What do you think I should do? What will high school be like for a sophomore who never had their freshman year (I hardly even experienced middle school)

It's not all it's cracked up to. Especially if you have no siblings, and parents who work. My dad works night shifts, and my mom works dayshifts. So literally one is always at work, and one is always sleeping. It's normally fun the first few months but after that it goes downhill. I was back and forth between homeschooling and public school until halfway through 6th grade when I switched to home and stuck with it

It's going to suck. Especially for someone with depression. High school is a building. You are forced to sit in this building almost everyday and pay attention to things that do not interest you whatsoever, but supposedly will determine your future. This part is sadly the best. The other part is that also in this building, there are other students. Usually hundreds. These people aren't like us. The majority of these people get thrills out of making other people's life Hell. Even "friends" hate each other. You have to be bullied. By some random dirt bag, or by your best friend, it's just part of the experience. You already know a little of this, since you attended public school before, but it gets so much worse, especially without the last few years of preparing for it.

That's what I was afraid to hear (but kind of expecting) but thanks for the honesty.. I don't know if I'm gonna try for it or not.

I think you should definitely go for it, you'll miss out on a lot of things if you don't, and like you said when your depressed the worst thing you can do is sit home alone all day.

Your first couple of months may be hard I'm not gonna lie. But don't let people tell you it's the worst 4 years of your life I think that's a load of shit it's what you do that determines how your time is.

High school and public school is what YOU make of it. That is the best part about it to me. I see people who fall below the mark, act up, party, etc. But its all their doing. At school they are resources to be seized, friends to made and memories to make. In the end it is up to you but do not let people tell you that its some terrible jailhouse. Sure, it'll be difficult at first for you but with an open mind you can really run with this.
I wish you the best.
