How did you all gain your administrators?

Before it was so many was it hard working the site by yourselves?

How hard is it running a site?

Administrators are usually Global Moderators who were promoted by the current administrators. However, in Virtual Teen's history one Moderator I think was once made Administrator and missed the global mod step.

Currently we only have one Administrator who is known as ImCoolBeans

You can view all staff here: http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showgroups.php

People with green names are known as Moderators --> We moderate sections.
People with Blue name are known as Global Moderators --> Those are the Senior Staff they are involved in some decision making such as hiring new moderators.
People with red names are the administrators

Well, over time, the then-administrators promote other members of staff to administrator. It's not often, though, and you must be very hard-working and dedicated to the site.

The difficulty lies mostly in removing obscene and offensive things, and a lot of spam. But we cannot do it by ourselves, as VT can only exist with the community. Use the "report" button to tell us about something that doesn't belong. Because, you see, at least half of the things we do are in some way influenced by your reports. For this reason we take spamming of reports very seriously, as it distracts from seeing the actual things.

There used to be more moderators -- one per subforum, if memory serves me right -- until we re-did the moderation system. That was shortly before I became a moderator in August 2011.

We used to have sectional moderators that was split into categories.

There were multiple reasons why it was changed but I think the main reason it was changed was to create more of a team. Plus H&A and PW didn't have a lot of moderating whereas p101 did.

Also I think it was to help bring in line with GD as they moderated all GD sections

I'm not sure as I wasn't around then but I think those were some valid reasons.

I see what you mean. But it doesnt sound like a bad idea in theory.

To answer you question about running a site:

Mediumish: Once you get your settings set up, and staff, forums, etc, the going gets easier

From my experience with VB the setting up is by far the hardest bit, after that running the site is easier, but yes admins (Mike) still have to tweak them from time to time, as well as add mods (not staff ones) and plugins, update the software etc. Then you get your SPAM settings, theme settings, user settings, the list goes on.

If you want to know more about running a site, send me a PM and I will go into more detail.
