hey guys, I play Openttd and took a full-map screenshot of my game, the image is 780 mb in size and it's not loading on anything, I even tried to load it in chrome.

Does anyone know how I can open it? (If you want to try opening it, I'm working on compressing it to 10mb using KGB Archiver.

It's 780mb in what format? PNG? You're not going to work with such an image without special software. Conventional image editing software is just going to choke on that AFAIK. If you're just interested in breaking it out into smaller pieces that can then be worked with, that might be doable.

I was just wanting to view it. i do not want to edit it. and I cannot upload it without significantly compressing it beforehand.

I'm not familiar with working with huge images, I'd suggest finding a way to break it out into smaller images (which you could then view.) If you're able to send it to me, I might be able to help with that.

What programs are you using to open it? I'd try Photoshop (if you have it).

780 megabyte? Are you sure it's compressed? That sounds like a raw image to me, unless your map is really that huge...

Is there some kind of setting to adjust the quality? You might want to make it lower quality if you want to distribute it at all. Because I assure you, nobody wants to wait for(or let crash) their image viewer program just for that. And the screenshots available on their website were made somehow.

780mb image? Seriously? There are video games that size.

That would be a good idea, but you'd have to open it initially to break it up

You probably need some advanced photo editing program, GIMP or Photoshop won't be enough. Maybe try to compress it somehow

ImageMagick might be able to, or failing that it might be possible to partially decode the image and save that out (uncompressed formats like BMP are easy to work like this, some PNGs could be done this way as well. It depends how the image is encoded.)

What are the pixel dimensions ? That may be the issue and not the MB.
Suggestion try dropping the file into media player and see if it displays the image.

Something you might want to try: Try the relevant manual page (http://wiki.openttd.org/Screenshot), and choose a lower resolution for the output file. Make sure to specify 256 colour PNG, because I assume you have either GIF or BMP, resulting in your large file.
