i have osteoarthritis in my right knee caused by an untreated tendon tear which resulted in damage to my cartilage and i'm looking for a way to reduce my pain without use of over the counter or prescription drugs because my tolerance for most medicines is of the charts. any and all advice is appreciated.

to be honest, apart from ice there's nothing you can do apart from drugs

Ouch man! That sounds like it hurts!
Reading and responding to some of your other threads a while back, it sounds like you just can't get a break in life!
As Jack said, apart from OC meds, ice is the other best option, but unless you want to literally freeze your skin off, you can't always have that on.
If it's really bothering you, you may want to go see your doctor and he can perscribe you some industrial-strength pain killers! :P

As much as this sounds like it hurts, moving around is actually the BEST thing you can do for arthritis. The more you USE your joints, the tougher they will get and the less they will hurt further down the road.
I would suggest trying to walk more. NEVER walk to the point where it hurts, though. Walk fifteen minutes or so to start off with, and work your way up. If it starts hurting, sit down and rest for a little, then head back.
If it's causing you a lot of pain on any day, I would suggest buying a knee brace to keep you from bending it too much, laying off of it for a couple of hours or a day, and once it feels better, walk a little.
But, yea, keeping off of it is really the worst thing you can do for it.
Try daily stretches as well, which might help you, but don't over extend.
Hope this helps,
- Amy
