Well, this kind of old news, as it happened in January. :P

But yeah, it's very sad, and certainly it was unnecessary for that deputy to shoot the dog. I'm glad he was taken off patrol. I hate hearing about these kinds of things.

By the way, here's what I read: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/deputy-who-killed-ziggy-the-dog-taken-off-patrol-duty-permanently

But also keep in mind that the news in my area is know to make up stories. What happened was that is was a strip of buisnesses in one building. The door was ajar and could have also been burglarized and the deputies did not enter when shots where fired.

was the dog violent? in britian a similar thing happened, a dog injured 5 officers and the dog couldn't be destroyed so armed police destroyed it, was the case similar to this?

Trust me, you aren't the only place that has reporters with alterior motives...

Yes the dog was agressive he was growling baring his teeth and biting at the officer luckily not making contact. The officer didnt know the man was living there and wasnt going to focus on a dog rather that a possibly armed burglar.

Obviously a dog is going to be protective of its territory. I think shooting, and subsequently killing, the dog might have been a split second decision. However, if it wasn't, then this officer deserves to be relieved of his duties.

Recently one of my cousin's dogs got murdered by a law enforcement officer as well. It had gotten loose once from it's chain, so they put it in it's smaller pin and locked the gate. When their mom went out to the store to purchase a new chain, it dug under the pin and got loose. Someone called animal control, and two police officers came. It was a playful, small Cocker-Spaniel and ran up to the police officers playfully. One of the officers shot the dog three times and killed it. My mother has been pushing for them to pursue legal action, because it was witnessed by some of their neighbors.

'Ziggy' doesn't look that large of a dog at all, and I highly doubt that he was aggressive towards the officers. Even like Ziggy said, a dog is going to be protective of his territory, but I honestly don't think he was that aggressive if he was.

After looking further, I see that the sheriff that shot the dog has had a bad history in the county anyhow.. I hope that this gets resolved.

The dog was agressive. He was biting at the officer but the officer wasnt gonna turn his back on the man and focus on a dog when that man could be an armed burglar. The news says it was the wrong adress, which it was, but it was a strip of buisnesses in one building and the door to his buisness was ajar it wasnt a home no one was supposed to be there. So he has a dog biting im is he gonna turn his back on the man and risk his life to deal with a dog.

But still, it was unnecessary. Killing someone else's pet should be a last resort. From what I read, it didn't seem necessary at all.
Sure, the dog was being vicious, but it wasn't so serious that the deputie's life was threatened, or he was in any danger of sustaining any significant injuries from an attack, because there was no attack. The dog was being vicious. That's it. The dog didn't attack him, so shooting the dog was unnecessary.

The deputies life was in danger. The man could have very well been Armed. Huh "focus on the real threat and kill dog or keep kicking dog and put myself in danger" what would you do? Honestly?

Well, sorry then. My opinion may be a little biased, as my dog has to be put down on Thursday.
I'm just saying, that from what I have read, killing the dog didn't seem necessary. It didn't seem like a last resort move on the deputie's part.
