They do help a little. As a way to cope with the depression. However it is not quite as effective as MEDICAL weed. "With the expansiveness that occurs with marijuana, the subject may begin to notice infinite possibilities to raise the quality of his/her life that would otherwise have remained hidden from normal, defensive consciousness. And feelings of health and happiness naturally lead to hope, which of itself can be curative." - Joan Bello

It can also offer an effect that is both energizing and relaxing at the same time. This balanced effect will help some to think more clearly and more efficiently afterwards. Thus leading to happiness

Don't get into cigarettes no matter how depressed you are they will only make it worse over time.
To be completely truthful when you first start and get the 10 minute buzz after smoking I felt happier don't know if you will but, I did. This only last for literally half a pack then its gone and you find yourself wanting another which has no purpose other then fueling your addiction. Then you realize you want to quit and can't then it depresses you more.
So if you think you really depressed now and want to start smoking to feel better for 10 or so minutes double that and that's how depressed and worthless you will feel when you realize you made a mistake you can never take back by starting to smoke.
Just don't start.

They really don't. Sure you'll get that "in the moment" high from a cigarette or marijuana (not talking medical here), but then where does that lead you. Depending on the marijuana, you could become psychologically (or rarely physically) addicted to it, and smoking cigarettes is a surefire way to become addicted to nicotine.

Now tell me how that's going to help you with depression and lead you to a better life.

My high actually keeps me relaxed for a couple days and i only do it 3 times a month to preserve the effect

I think this is more of an appropriate place, considering the main subject.

It does help temporarily as the poster has asked though. As I said before medical weed is the best option though to relieve depression. Though I don't really encourage either unless you need a very good reason too.

If you're looking to solve emotional problems with physical objects, you're looking in the wrong places. Anything that's used to temporarily treat depression will only make it worse in the end. Sure while you're intoxicated you may feel great, but i'm sure if you pondered a few seconds about what you're really feeling, it wouldn't be anything like that. Intoxicants don't fix the source of your problems, they only disguise them temporarily.

Stick with the reefer bud, Cigarettes are nasty in the long run.
(This is coming from someone who used to enjoy them)

They didn't work for me at all, that's the main reason I turned to weed.

Weed isn't used for depression or anxiety. It actually worsens it.

Medical marijuana is used for weight loss (significant weight loss), pain, and cancer/aids. It's not used for depression or anxiety, because all it does is temporarily suppress it, then it will come back to be stronger and much worse. It's basically like alcohol in that aspect.

i think pot will add to your depression but i think a good puff on a ciggy can help relax you enough without taking drugs!

I think it will temporarily, but becoming addicted is lifelong.

Being honest both of them don't help you in a long run. Sure they get you relaxed for a couple of hours, but hey you get addicted. I thought of this myself, and sure you feel in peace for those moments, but i don't think they pay off.

Cigarettes do not help with depression. Temporary stress relief (and this effect goes away after you start having a smoke a day, then it's just painful)

Marijuana can help, but not unless you're old enough.
