I'm an immigrant. I'm new to Canada and my English is not really good. I'm taking summer school right now. There are two Native Canadian girls eating their lunch together in the hallway. They look very close to each other. I don't have same class with them and I've never talked to them before either. They might not even know my existence. I can only see them during lunch time and on bus. They look stylish and unapproachable. I really want to make friends with them but I don't know how. What should I do or say to them? This has been bothering me for a while. Please help me. Truely appreciated.

Just get close and say Hi, try to establish conversation by talking about something that has happen at summer school, most likely topic could be that day lunch... work from there...

Say "Hi my name's _____ and I'm new here. How are you?"

I'd say just act normal, this is, say hi and ask if you can sit with them, and try to get involved in their conversations.

There's no reason to approach them any differently than anyone from your home country. Just introduce yourself and go for it.

But my concern is what if they don't want anyone to bother them? What if they just want to keep to theirselves. Should I really just go and ask to become their friends? Or should I just stay alone like many people else did?

Just say 'hi, can I sit here?' or words to those effect, if you don't try you won't know. If they do end up like something off of Mean Girls then you know they aren't worth it and there will be plenty of other nice people at your school :)

They wouldn't just say "back off" if they didn't want to be bothered. And making yourself known and showing that you're interested in friendship shouldn't bother them anyway. You talk as though you know them as two incredibly quiet people with little social skills.

If you just go up to them, chill a bit, talk a bit, then things will escalate if you keep it up.
