Do you want pre-assembled or parts for you to assemble?

$1,500 goes a lot farther when you assemble it yourself, though.

Big question, can he assemble the computer? Does he know how? He may have to pay someone to do that.

It's easy enough if you take the time to learn. Probably take a few hours for a noob to do. If he doesn't want to learn there's always Dell.

If you wanna dish out a few more bucks the 8800 GT outruns the 8600 GTS

assembling a computer is quite easy tbh I find the op system and bios installation the hardest.

You may also want to consider the AMD Radeon HD 3870.

That will cost several hundred extra for an operating system nobody should have to suffer through. Oh, do you have an install disc? If not you'll need $90 extra for an XP disc. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116056

I personally like apple/mac laptops and computers. But if you get a pc try and stay away from Vista. Or at least till they work out the kinks.

Do any of you read? :p
I want to play Halo 2! xD
He clearly said he wants to play Halo 2. Now, why are you suggesting XP to him? Halo 2 is Vista only. There are cracks and patches to get Halo 2 working on XP, but they ARE illeagal, and the patch is only good for about half the game. PLUS there's no online play!!! Now what fun is that?
@ the OP, if you do get Vista, get either Home Premuim or Ultimate as they are the best. :)

Rather old topic, don't you think? He's likely been done for a long time, and all the parts have become cheaper and better now. For $1,500 you can make a truly beastly system now.
